Oh the memories and nostalgia! 😢 Nearly cried. Rarely go into the city centre now, only if l have to. Just horrible now and sad! Ghost Town by the Specials is relevant more than ever. 😂 I remember the fruit and veg Shopping at Coventry Market every Saturday with parents. Owen Owen with Grandma. Odeon and Theatre One with friends. Not forgetting Woolworths, Inter Shop, Poster Place, Shambles Arcade, Athena plus many more. God bless Coventry, will always be in my heart.

I lived in Coventry from 1944 to 1972. It was an excellent place in that it had strong industry, plenty of entertainment, parks and schools of a good standard and on Saturday I could watch Jimmy Hill's Sky Blues battling up from Division 4 to the old First Division or one of the leading Rugby Clubs at Coundon Road. The Coventry Theatre had al the top acts and the Belgrade a strong Theatre Programme. All was good and prosperous. Most thought it could last for ever. Just prior to my leaving, I met an old family friend who was well versed in the Motor Industry . He had just returned from a sponsored Trade visit to view the Japanese Motor Industry. His comment 'The Japanese will do to the Car Industry what they did to our Motor Cycle Industry, you're leaving at the right time.' Sad but proved true.

For me Coventry has never recovered from the Norman invasion of 1066. I remember Coventry being a kinder and happier place before those Norse-French vandals turned up. The introduction of the feudal system and the cultural changes foisted upon us ruined everything for me.

Hand my first pint in The Rainbow at 15, worked in The Cedars, The Herald and The Holyhead and drank in about a quarter of the pubs mentioned, went on to become a Publican in London and various other places before stopping drinking completely at 43 best thing I ever did.

Look at the fans! Robins has got them like this again but it has taken 50 years to get home support so loud (I know Big John did it in 87) but sustained loud home support I mean on a weekly basis.

Liked Dave Cross. I'm a 57 year old Sky Blue and he scored at Highfield Rd in my first ever game as a spectator in 73/74. Some great old names, Coop, Cartwright, Caitlin and the legend that was Tommy Hutch.

I was born in Coventry in 1962, lived on Bell Green Road until the houses were demolished and ended up living in a new house in Mottistone Close, Cheylesmore. I left at 10 years of age and moved to Ireland with my parents. I loved the city and still do.Went back every year to spend the summer with relatives. Brilliant place full of gorgeous people.

I went from Ireland to study in Coventry over 20 years ago, flippin loved the place. Great bars, nightspots. Recently I went on Google maps and the changes I noticed were unreal. All round the train station, city centre, new buildings all over. I drank in Shakespeare bar, City Arms Earlsdon and others I don't remember names of.

I worked for COVENTRY CLIMAX in the north east for 24 years from 1973 until 1997 as a service engineer, Most towns and cities are suffering from a decline in manufacture etc . Here is no different (STOCKTON ON TEES ) a total shadow of its former self .I and my colleagues did our training in COVENTRY, and i for one loved it so many friendly people. I also had a COVENTRY built car a 1959 Standard ensign ,it was bought in 1969 by my father and i acquired from him in 1978 i sold it in 2019 after it covered 293633 miles yes that is the correct mileage. I regret to this day selling it. I know CLIMAX was acquired by Kalmar in the 80s but i was kept on by them only left because of the next take over .However i still long for my days spent in COVENTRY happy days.

Burnt Post, The Climax/Bug & Black Bat, The Golden Cup, The Hare & Squirrel, Silver Sword. Interesting to see some of these pubs I visited for Rock 'n' Roll dos in the late seventies such as The Old Ball & The Red House. A lifetime ago.

This and the West Germany Austria game in 1982 World Cup brought about the final set of matches in competitions starting simultaneously. But of course there are always wheezes like getting stuck in the traffic on the way to the ground.

Brilliant. Brought me back to when I was 16 to 20 living in Lower Ford Street, before joining the Army. The background music is so apt too. Then I used to go to Leeds away matches. Returning, it was a mad dash from the railway station to a pub next to ABC Theatre. Pay 50p to get in and a few pints before the walk home to watch MoTD. Alternatively a Friday/Saturday night, was a quick one at the Silver Sword, then to the Allhambra, few pints there and then across the road to the other pub whose name escapes me. Walk home across Pool Meadow, chips from the chippy and home. The great old days when we would say "Never going to pay a quid for a pint" Oh.....not forgetting my attire of Farah trousers, Fred Perry T Shirt, and Pringle jumper.
