Wow! Posted 7 yrs ago & only 2 comments? The video is very well produced. I worked on the Rathbone square development back in 2016-2017 & a couple of us snuck down there to have a look, 4 basement levels down. Very interesting, didn’t know it existed until I worked on that job.

I work as a post man and i can say that there is a lot of mail is sorted by humans and some of it is by machines, in 2024 i believe that all letters should be sorted by machines though and of-course humans will deliver them-

Great fascinating piece of your history. Will definitely take a ride through if I'm ever lucky enough to leave America. But I've been so broke my entire life, and into retirement now so it's not likely. Would love for this channel to get to work. It's like you started with great intentions, but because you didn't immediately get a million subs, just quit. Those with successful yt channels upload every day and have an interaction with their audience, preferably through a regular schedule of live streams where a community can build in the chat. Just saying. Since you ain't getting any other reactions

15 months and no comments? I'm fascinated about this period of history, from the end of our Civil War through WW2, with the recent disparaging comments here in the States by JD Vance, running for VP on the fascist Trump ticket. Saying "childless cat lady" which sent me in a huge historical rabbit hole unto itself. My favorite has been searching for the political cartoons and pieces written from the Suffrage movement and those who opposed them from this time. That these ladies mailed themselves to your top representative back in 1909 is fascinating and definitely going on my list to research. Just can't believe this short hasn't had more interaction. Definitely subbing to see what else you're putting out from your postal history. ✌️🤟💨🍄🐥

Postal Cadets where basically cheap labour, used by the Post Office to reduce overtime. (In fact the adult staff had tried to stop the introduction of cadets because of this.) I was sentenced in 1979 to two years as one. We where placed on rotating mornings and afternoons from the age of 16. The first full week past my 18th birthday, I was placed on a night shift, in what was known as the IPS. (Inward Primary Sorting) at Bham's HPO, now The Mail Box. The film of the Code Sort Area in Bham, brings back faces from the past, with whom I worked; almost all now would be in their late 60s to mid-70s; three of the people in the film moved to Sutton "Z", (Surface foreign) Unlike Matthew's experience, mine was awful and I regularly finished my stint on the coding desk with a headache; through concentration! (I was particularly fast and accurate and once up to speed, muscle memory would ensure the speed was kept up - accuracy was expected, as we were monitored and disciplined if we fell short.) What I hated, amongst other things, was having to manually sort after the coding work finished (usually about 21:00) Instead of going on to my own duty on the "Forward Roads", we were put on the heaviest, like the South West, East Midlands, West 1 etc... so crammed and full to the brim, that there were two PHGs to a letter fitting, all the letters and parcels HAD to be cleared, so again, one had to work like crazy to clear it and get it done. I was over the moon when an opportunity came to move to another branch. Dust off my feet! I loathed the place and the Post Office (can't go into all the reasons here, (but I could), luckily though, I received a reprieve and managed to leave, go to college and university (Nothing gained from working at the PO, well, only being able to touch type this comment.) Can't imagine how bad it would of been to have stayed and remained there all my working life. As for changing the clocks, NOT a chance in Brum! I'd forgotten the "J", i.e. BJ. though. Glad it worked out for you!

Doesn't want to talk about the loss of jobs. When I was a Xmas temp at royal mail 10 years ago, was told that the company takes on very few new staff. Rather pay an agency good money to provide a zero hours temp.

Machine can tell if a letter is first or second class but they don't have one to sort letters into the same address so some poor old bugger has to manually do it by hand lol
@tgm99913 ай бұрын
No the vast majority of the mail does come sequenced in delivery order. The last machine that they put it in does it. There is still mail that comes just sorted by the first half of the postcode including all large letters which are too large for the machines and parcels but most of the standard mail is sorted in delivery order
@PeterFaithfull-qc7sh8 ай бұрын
The other thing that needs to improve in the postal service is training staff properly and throwing them on to a walk where they have not been taught how to deliver the mail and prep it in the correct order.

I mailed two letters two days ago. They were going to two of the teachers I had when I was in elementary school, which were a guidance counselor and a music teacher. In my letters, I told my guidance counselor that I'm sorry for lying to her and I told my music teacher that I'm sorry for calling him evil. They still haven't written back yet. They're probably outraged at me.

@StephieGsrEvolution Well, Mrs. Mallam (the guidance counselor) called the police department right after she got my letter and 50 text messages and emails. A cop came over to my house and talked to me. He was very nice, handsome, and understanding. Mr. Peters (the music teacher) still hasn't written back to me. Now I'm finished writing a letter to a guy I went to elementary school with. His name is Matt. Matt was a huge fan of presidents and sports and still is today. Matt even said that he wanted to become the president of the United States when he grew up.
