I grew up in an abusive home. This song pulled me through a lot. I'd sing it to myself all the time, wishing I were somewhere else, over the rainbow. I'm far away from that situation now, but years later as an adult I still get teary-eyed listening to it.

This was always my favorite 🤩 song 🎧 in the wizard 🧙 of oz I know it’s a musical 🎤 but I’ve literally never 👎 once saw it live before but I’ve only seen it as a movie 🍿 and I love ❤️ how the over the rainbow 🌈 song describes of what a rainbow 🌈 is and of how it became a rainbow 🌈 hence of what a rainbow 🌈 is made out of

That song still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it sung or even played on the radio. Incidentally, I also have a link with The Wizard of Oz too. It's in the form of Glinda's pink dress which I had an EXACT copy of it for my 8th grade graduation! 😊

I saw this at the Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto about 30 years ago. There's more music than what's here. Too bad the film's not available right now. Hopefully it'll be available in a DVD format of some kind.

I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD, where the late, great Billie Holiday lived for a good bit of time. As an elementary school student, I went on a couple of field trips to the Baltimore Museum of Art, and there was an exhibit called STRANGE FRUIT. If I remember correctly, b/c it has been 30+ years, this exhibit included a large metal or wooden statue of a person, hanging by the feet, and Billie Holiday's voice can be heard singing "Strange Fruit." As a child, I definitely did not understand, but it was still such a powerful, powerful display. I'm not sure if the museum still has the exhibit, but it was definitely an experience.

It sads to think about cause when she was singing this she wasn’t just thinking about dorthy being over the rainbow but she herself wanted to be over the rainbow and get away from all the trouble and pain they put her through

At around 1:32 the reeds come in, muted, but glowing soft and sad. They underscore the lilt of Garland’s voice and I feel something I can’t express.

Ginger had a full routine of jazz scatting when she was in Vaudeville so this is one of the very few times when we can see her earliest improvisations worked out and set to structure. In 'Roberta" she worked with 2 of her great partners of the 1930s - Astaire of course, but also as important to Ginger's development as an actress, director Bill Seiter. Under his direction, she was transformed from leading lady in B films to one of the greats - - one of the very few true superstars.
