I had a 3TA years ago that did a similar thing. It was down to a worn carburettor, weakening the mixture.

My first go to would be to clean the air filter. I had a 400four which would run well for a bit and then would not rev hardly at all and got increasingly worse. it turned out to be a damp sponge at the entrance to the air filter box.

Your silencer is upside down. I had a super sporty half bathtub Tiger 90 when I was 18. My MZ Supa 5 was better but the Triumph had a lovely melifluous burble at low revs and a demonic shriek when I was trying to keep up with my brothers T120V. .

Decades ago, I had a 1961 3TA (civilian but no bathtub), it was a lot of fun and great to ride. It was very manoeuvrable and good in traffic. A two into one exhaust was a common mod, supposedly to improve lower end and middle range torque but mine had twin exhausts.
@harrybluemax8 күн бұрын
Sounds like a carb problem do you use a choke to start it, does the choke fully disengage when its warmed up? I remember the old manual choke levers and sometimes I would forget to turn it off until the engine started stalling.
@aaronkerridge7 күн бұрын
I believe it is .was also thinking of removing the choke altogether and just use the tickler on the carburetor

Hey Aaron, assuming that's your name, I did some digging and if you Google "dutch army triumph motorcycle", You should find a Dutch website with a bunch of info/history and such. And just because you bought a Dutch ex army bike, them flatlanders over there are not going to assume you're fluent in Dutch all of a sudden, so the site is in English. I don't know of the top of my head what the specs are on that Monobloc, have to do some more digging. You can of course only be sure what jets and throttle slide are in there by taking it off and checking the numbers. Maybe some experimenting with different settings may work. You'll find both the Solex and Amal specs on the website as well as typical problems and the cure for them. Hope this works for you. Let me know. Cheers!!!

Cool!!! Bought mine in 1985 when the DOD released a bunch of them for auction. I think they were geared a little lower for off road riding and besides escorting a tank column doesn't happen at more than 50 mph. Tank tube inlet for deep wading, kinda unique. They had a Solex carb with a choke lever on it. Big black leather bags with lockable features. All the lube points were painted red. They had a skid plate under the engine. Interchangeable front and rear wheel, both WM2, 18". Exhaust system was painted silver grey. No chrome parts anywhere. Looks like your bike got started on being civilianized, something lots of owners did. I think you have a nice fairly unchanged machine here. Good score! Been awhile, may remember more if I dig deeper.

@@aaronkerridge You're welcome. Don't want to sound like Mr. 3TA, I'm sure I'm not. 🤣 Not sure what size Monobloc is on your bike. Could be a little too big. I remember on mine a 26 Concentric was no good. Ran better with the 22mm Solex. Check your air filter, they're a bit special for this model only and yours may be old and clogged. Other than that check your timing and points, condensers, the works. I think there are smaller than 26 Concentrics available. These bikes were only 18 hp and pretty low compression, typical army stuff. Mine would do 60-65 mph with me being 6'2" and 190. I noticed yours is missing the crash bar on the down tube, but no big deal. Hope it helps. Let me know. Cheers!!!

Glad you enjoyed your test ride on the Ryker & F3 Spyder. Sounds like you had a great experience! We have a 2022 Spyder RTL chrome model & throughly love it. Puts a big smile on our faces every time we go for a ride , it’s so much fun ! We have a short riding season here which can start from April or May until September depending on when the snow/ ice decides to come & go! Thank you for giving us a true opinion on what you felt, coming from two wheels, as we still get criticism for not being a motorcycle! It does get a lot of comments from people were ever we go! Seems like there are a few more dealerships opening up over there now, as I could only find 2 when goggled it a while back. Ride safe regards Stephen Alberta Canada.

It's the carb tops mate. As the slide comes up to it's fully open position the tops stop it opening fully by touching the carb top. If I remember correctly the slide goes 3/4 of it's way up. Cure and access to full power is a set of tops.

I'm sure some exploring would go down well. Mental health is something we should all be talking more about for sure!
