Hi DeVante - Thank you for putting these videos together (I,II,III,IV). I am an "old dog" and these are "new tricks" for me. I am using EW Hollywood Opus (Diamond) Sounds. I compose everything in Sibelius Ultimate and have been looking for a way to compose in Sibelius with NotePerformer 4 and then import (with all of the articulations and expression included) into Studio One v5.5. I'm not understanding how to import the articulations from the EW sounds into the Sound Variations feature in Studio One. Also, I'm a bit lost as your example in the first episode uses the Symphony Series and I'm using EW Hollywood Opus (Diamond). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wish you every success. Thank You! Scott Freeby

Use the sound variations in studio one to create an articulation map. The process is similar to what happens in the Sound Set Editor. I might make a video on the subject as it has some nuances

Extremely helpful! We are all lucky to have such a well organized tutorial available. I have been wondering if this stuff was possible for many months and such information too often doesn't exist or is just buried with all the youtube garbage out there that simply wastes time. You have opened up a new world of understanding for me. Thank you.

Just upgraded to Ultimate with whole new install. Your videos v insightful, and I just about followed it. Really good...viewed most of series, thanks. Yet when it comes to the free gift BBC SO Discovery, I copied files into the relevant directory (btw I didn't have Sounds sub-directory under Apps../ Roaming, so created it), but it doesn't show up in the config. All I have is Gen Midi (basic). What went wrong? You mentioned something about installing, but I didn't understand what you were referring to. Pls help.

First, try and restart sibelius. Sometimes, the changes don't take effect the first time you run Sibelius. Second, check the paths to make sure you're in the correct location. Third, follow the steps at the beginning of this video to prepare Sibelius with the settings. Or, open the .sib file in the free gift folder. It already has all the correct settings. Let me know if that helped! And thanks for watching

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. In the meantime I've realized I also needed to download the .dll VST file from Spitfire [to go with your two files] and put it in a suitable directory. (Should have known that, having been running Sibelius 6.2 for 10yrs - Doh!) Then went to Audio Engine Options, Virtual Instruments & Effects and set to said folder as per guidance. Go for Rescan option, close Sibelius & restart. And hey presto, I get BBC Symphony Orchestra to show in the Playback/Config/settings panel. Great! Also get the orchestra layout graphic of same when activated...highlight and press 'show' button. Wonderful. [Puzzle: Why is the Soundset Gen Midi? Should it be something else from drop-down menu?] Yet still have a problem with the mapping of some of the instruments to your Orchestra Manuscript Template (which can up fine). So somehow the xml file not quite right or something. (I'm sure there's another version somewhere? - I've found two, different sizes 14k & 26k?) Need to review your brilliant videos, which are fantastic. Hoping to better understand integration DAW & Sibelius. Up to now I've operated these quite separately. Anyway, just away for a vacation break and will get back to you on my progress as and when etc. Thanks again. Best wishes. Derek, Dartmouth Devon UK www.sandquay.com @@The1Composer

How do you link Sibelius and Cubase today in 2023 where Cubase 12 pro doesn't have rewire option anymore? Can it be done only through loopMIDI?
@The1Composer
@The1Composer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it really sucks that ReWire was discontinued. I personally use Studio One 5, which still has ReWire capabilities and use the newer version for non-notation uses. I imagine you can still use loopMIDI, but Sibelius won't follow along like it will with ReWire. This probably means that it won't lock to the grid like it's supposed to. I'll try it tonight, but let me know how it goes for you.

Hello. Ok? So... One question, please. Which VST libraries does Sibelius support? Does Sibelius allow for more than one or several different VST libraries in a single score? E.g. Noteperformer or Vienna for Orchestra instruments, Kontakt for guitar with pedalboard effects, UVI world suite and JADE Ethnic Percussion for ethnic instruments. Is there a possibility to use them in the same edition at the same time? Awaiting return. Thank you very much for your attention. Success on the channel! tmj 👊👍👏🙂

As long as you link your VST libraries to sibelius, any library should be compatible. And yes, it is possible to mix and match different libraries when you make your own custom Sound Set. I believe I go over this in part 3 of this series. Sorry I took so long. Just now seeing this question. Hope it helps.

Hi DeVante I had one more question how you set the spitfire UACC under the keyswitches tab?
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 2 жыл бұрын
Make a new Controller called UACC and set the cc value to 32 and default to 1. Set the switch type to controller instead of keyswitch and use the value of the UACC articulation eg. Legato is UACC 20

This is very useful! Thank you! I have a question regarding the multi-note sample (ref. +/- 21:00) radio button. I see you ticked it for trills, but not for other articulations. Wouldn’t it be safer to tick it for all articulations seeing that most instruments are composed of multi samples nowadays? Maybe, I haven’t completely understood the concept of multi-note sample…
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 2 жыл бұрын
"Multi-note" in this context means: "a patch that cycles between 2 or more notes." If you record a trill into your DAW without this checked, it will record each individual note used in the trill and probably not active the patch. But if you do have the box checked then it will active the patch and record just one note for the trill. It's not necessary for patches that play one note. Even if you play a chord it's not the same thing as a trill or tremolo. Glad you liked the video though!

Hey Everyone! This problem was brought to my attention for the Native Instrument Symphony Series String section but I know for a fact that this will also be applicable with other libraries. So if you're having trouble with articulations not triggering in the string section then this could be a solution. In the Sound Set Editor, within the Programs tab, the Sound ID you need for the string section are as follows: Violin I: strings.violin.ensemble Violin II: strings.violin.ensemble.2 Viola: strings.viola.ensemble Cello: strings.violoncello.ensemble Bass: strings.contrabass.ensemble Make sure that after you save it in the Sound Set Editor you change it in Sibelius: Play Tab > Setup > Manual Sound Sets > Device: Strings Once you're there change all of the Program names to something else, then change it back to the intended name. Sibelius remembers the old setting so changing it then switching back sets it to the new settings. You can verify the change happened when the Sound ID is the same as the Sound IDs I listed above. After that, restart Sibelius and see if it works now.

I thank you for this valuable information, it solved a problem I’ve had for years. I made a Woodwind Sound Set and that one worked. With the key switches in the library being assigned to octave starting at C -1 and the key switches set in Sound Set Editor at octave starting at C 0. Am I right to assume that the Sound Set Editor triggers key switches an octave lower than indicated? I made a simple test sound set for Symphony Series Strings; with only two key switches, legato, and staccato. The key switch for legato in the Strings library are C 0 and Staccato is F 0, so I used C 1 and F 1 on the Switch Types page of the Sound Set Editor. With these settings there is no response to the staccato score marking; however, If I manually change the articulation on the library to something other than legato then start play on Sibelius. The articulation will jump back to legato but it will not respond to any of the score markings where I have indicated that it should play staccato. You made a statement that most libraries use key switches in the -2 octave and so you are using key switches in the -1 octave. You never did fully explain this, am I right that you mean the Sound Set editor will trigger key switches and octave lower than entered in the Switch Types Action Settings?
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon. Thanks for watching this series. I'm glad that it's helped you in your composing. Your assumption is correct. The Sound Set Editor uses the Keyswitch 1 octave above what's in your VST (because of the C-2, C-1 difference). I just ran a test on this issue and found the solution. That's the change I made to mine and it now works. Sorry I didn't catch that before but thanks for bringing it up and if you have anymore questions let me know in that specific video so other people who need to troubleshoot can see possible solutions.

Hey bro, this doesn’t work for me… Maybe you have encountered the same problem as I did at some point? I watched your whole tutorial for the Sound Set Editor, but something is out of place. When i route and setup everithing, and than hit the play button, some sections dont end their notes, and it becomes this big cluster of sounds… I guess it is a problem with keyswitch binding? I don’t quite understand the concept, and google isn’t much help. For instance: woodwind instruments are bound to have legato notes on c0, but so are violins. Am i supposed to put them to c1, or is that a no go as well? Also, can any note be the [reset] keyswitch?
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 3 жыл бұрын
So the note sustain has happened to me before. It's a bit annoying but it happens when you stop playback of a note that's just beginning (at least from what I've seen so far). Is this happening in Sibelius or your DAW?
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 3 жыл бұрын
Also in the Sound Set Editor, you should create different switch types for each section. That way woodwinds and strings won't cross their wires. Lastly, the keyswitch binds should be an octave above what it says in your instrument but, test it out. Yours might be on the keyswitch. Thinking about this has got me thinking about doing a Troubleshooting video so if you run into anymore issues let me know; I've guarantee I have run into that problem before so it's normal for me to fix it quickly.

Hi dude, amazing video!! Started following the series today, and they couldn’t have come at a better time. Right now, I’m trying to recreate an orchestra acommpaniment for a cello concerto, using this method. Quick question: Since I have a whole orchestra and many sections (when combined), do I have to assign violins to a different channel as for instance flutes (3|4), or will it work as it is? Awsome tutorial! Cheers :))
@The1Composer
@The1Composer 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! I'm glad you enjoyed it and find it useful. As for your question: use a different instance of kontakt/komplete kontrol for each orchestra section. Also, create a new channel for each instrument you want. So Violin I would be (3/4) and Violin II will be (5/6) in your String Section kontakt/KK
