Massive flaws at 7:16 see how when you ratchet down the clamps the board has a gap at the edge where it is being cut? That's because these clamping mechanisms are causing the board to be pushed down hard on one side and the side sitting proud of the board is slightly angled up. Which means you are not getting 2 90 degree surfaces to be parallel. Its more like 88 degrees, times 2, and that will cause a small gap. This might be okay with just a thin top. But it doesn't replace the accuracy of a jointer.

Excellent video! I do have a question though. Does thinning the headstock as you did allow for a carved heel or volute when the neck shaping begins?

I recently did the same and designed a bass guitar in Inkscape. Without having watched your video before, I came up with exactly the same approaches 😁. Like manually tracing existing designs and then making adjustments, masking a drawing of the bridge, using the flip tool to design the back, heavy use of the measure tool etc. I'm not sure if it was available in Inkscape back then, but now, I also use the clone tool heavily. You can for example clone the tuners, the pickups, or the body shape and then flip it to use it as a back view. Then, any changes are in sync. Next step: I'll use Marz Workbench to convert it to a 3d model in FreeCAD. Marz provides extensions to both Inkscape and FreeCAD to do just that.

Excellent video. It went fast. Before I knew it, it was over. Most people that make videos like this, make the video just drag along. You didn’t. Thank you. Very informative. Tom Sisson

Instead of sanding that second phase, have you considered clamping the two pieces on the jig and going back through the table saw again?

Hi, why not cut the trussrod slot first on square section stock before you shape the neck. You wont need a jig, just a fence on the router...

Any reason to use the router to reduce the thickness instead of a thickness planer? Snipe?

You embody the phrase "Cleanliness is next to godliness." You precision with measurements, cuts, dust free, and double check in order to achieve perfection are exemplary. Well done and thank you. You are like a diamond cutter on would. I can think of no better way to do it. I'm inspired.

Very nice guitar. Whey did you hollow out the upper back part of the mahogany body before you laminated the walnut on?

Thanks for this video. I have made a jig similar to this but have yet to route a good clean channel. I got three great ideas from this. I need to add the bolts on the side. Do you have something that they go thru in the wood so eventually it doesn't just strip out the wood? Secondly I need to add the stop piece because the truss rod I routed for last night I went too far so I had to reglue some pieces in the channel for a stop. And thirdly mine is just a fracton too wide so I have to add something in the sides so it doesnt float around. I'm getting there. A work in progress.

Very nice job and great idea. I need to find a way to make a neck rest, but I do not have a table saw. I am basically limited to my Radial Arm saw and a shallow depth reciprocating type saw and some hand tools. Any ideas? Thanks and nice job on your neck rest. Great idea... Nice, but why that awesome mahogany on the back? Walnut should have taken the brunt of the weight relief and saved the mahogany. Back looks better than the front.
