An Evolutionary pov on human behavior is valid, however there are many historical, economic, social, anthropolical, philosophical, and psychological ways to interpret human behavior. Harari tries to combine a few of them.

Your generation is lucky to be the bridge. I raised Millenials and among us parents the video game debate raged. I allowed Nintendo into my house and I played with my kids. I didn't allow certain games for their violence content. I knew that their futures needed them to develop the eye and hand coordination, I as an adult couldn't keep up with. I made my kids socialize if they got too buried into their gaming. I experienced, and voiced out loud the feeling of dependence, even if we didn't fully understand the affects on our serotonin levels. I just turned 60 and still game, my children game but it doesn't dominate them as adults. My sons sunk deeper into that hole before climbing out on their own, which I think they did because, I never let life completely become a solo activity for them. As for my parent cohorts that tried banning video games altogether, they eventually lost that battle and alienated their children in the process. The Gen Z, they have to reparent themselves from scratch, on more levels than any generation before.

I would guess because we are vulnerable physically during the process. If you are worried about being attacked by a predator while also being aware that a predator could track you by the scent, you learn to find a safe isolated place to do to it. Do that for 100k years and it becomes integral to do it in a "safe" place. Just my 2 cents.

i think all humans defo have an inherent desire to make something that will last forever, even if there doesn't seem to be any tangible benefits to you doing it, just the thought of creating something that might outlive you is enough to motivate you to complete something, all im thinking is this motivation might be created because we see other humans doing this in the past, like for example we might have a feeling to create music if we heard about a dead singer who is still talked about and still has an impact today. this is pretty interesting, great vid!

Yes, we tend to find something that we know people don't forget, and are drawn to it!

Simple really - my New Years resolution is to make it to New Year 2026. Given the state of the world it's a big ask.
