What if the lights don’t flash but the head still comes down?
@beardedbiomed5 күн бұрын
If the head motor moves after jumping those pins it's typically the motor but if you jump the pins nothing moves and lights all illuminate I've found it to be a logic board issue. Really depends on revision as well as some revisions have two boards while this version I was looking at in the video was the singular board that controls everything at the end of the day running through this with Hillrom tech support is always your best call

Appreciate you watching. Doing an MOS swap to 68A will serve you far better than getting out and prusing the career just through college. What is great for you is that there is a great Biomed community out in Colorado CABMET! Now if your planning to stay in your current MOS use that education benefit and start knocking out classes towards a electrical Instrumentation or biomedical engineering degree with a college of your choice, but Def would recommend looking into online classes with CBET (College Of Biomedical Equipment Technology). If you go one of those routes you will be setup better than trying to break into the industry otherwise

What would you recommend for a Biomed that was wants to get CBET but has never really worked within a hospital setting, but mainly as a Dialysis Biomed.
@beardedbiomed7 ай бұрын
The CBET is going to be extremely tough if you don't know about the different modalities. The study guides and the study group will be helpful but I couldn't tell you if they would get you over the hump. You could start out with the CABT and work your way towards the CBET

This is good and interesting information. I'm a Army trained lab tech transfered into third party field service. Even during my Army days I always feel more accomplished working on the equipment instead of just using it. Being a third party tech it's a quite different ball game. We don't have any certs or offical certificates but I work on a wide spectrum of equipment. I am interested in honing the craft some more. Any suggestions/resources for someone like me wants to learning but don't want to go back to school? I also do work on validation testing on CTUs such as ultra low freezers, incubators, oven, autoclave, laboratory refrigerator and freezers. Let me know if you are interested in that realm of things.

That's how it typically is in field service. The easiest way to become truly familiar with a specific device is the service manual and through experience of troubleshooting those devices outside of oem training. I've learned so much just by diving into equipment I didn't know, reading manuals, asking tech support questions, and posting questions in Biomed groups

I appreciate the effort you go through to put out these videos there really are not enough resources to bring in younger people into the field. I feel that I should amend my previous comment. The CBET is something I think anyone in the biomedical industry should have as a goal for plenty of reasons most are touched on in this video. It is on my list as well even if only for the credibility. (Though it’s not at the top of the list at the moment, but I’m sure that will change) thanks again for your time sitting down and discussing this

The military course is gonna serve you well. Make lots of connections cause you will meet them down the road. Try to sign up for manufacture training or schoolhouse advanced training courses if your able to. While the diploma from the 68A schoolhouse will get you in the door for jobs don't stop there. Look Into your certs like (A+, N+, S+) & CBET. it's going to be a lot of information it's alright if you don't get it all at once but eventually things will click. Utilize your Biomed community via Facebook groups, LinkedIn, & Discord

Congratulations on your achievement! That is a hard test and you did it! Helpful episode. I did the Canadian format for CBET (Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist) many years ago. I had seven years of experience as a Biomed when I wrote. It was a proud moment and I had a lot of fun. At that time there were minimal study aids. We formed a provincial study group and asked knowledgeable professionals such as engineers, doctors, other technologists in the anesthesia and respiratory fields, to present on CSA standards, and equipment modalities. We shared books and created our own question banks for each subject. I recommend forming study groups and frequent your local hospital library. After about a year of study (we had lives of course) we wrote the exam. Experience in a quaternary care hospital system helped a lot. The study group was essential. The CBET is a nice addition to our provincial certification as Certified Engineering Technologist which also has an ethics exam. The provincial certification regulates technologists in the province and CET is a mandatory prerequisite certification before going for CBET. There are many arguments for and against using the CBET as a hiring criteria. There will always be knowledgeable uncertified technicians and technologists in our field. The certification is a way to actively demonstrate an interest in Biomed as well as a desire to continue learning in the field. CBET demonstrates to an employer that you have achieved a standardized minimum baseline of knowledge and experience that can be applied in their healthcare setting. There are a number of exams you cannot study to pass, but studying helps augment experience. When I wrote, it was mandatory to have a minimum of four years in a hospital setting and a reference from a physician who knew us. Experience was therefore a primary prerequisite to qualify. CBET may not improve your troubleshooting skills, it will not impart experience, but it will provide many golden nuggets of information that will help you down the road in your career.

I can understand where you are coming from. When I first began this career after the military (18 months ago) I took the CABT and purchased the study guide through AAMI. While this test is a smaller version of the CBET the online training site was a little difficult to filter through once I finished the whole course (couldn't find it for months) and the content of the study guide did not fully reflect the official test. Luckily for me, I had a bunch of electrical questions and I have a solid background in that and troubleshooting so that helped. Keep it up!
