I have been into the Huertgen Forest many times. Have walked the Kall Trail and noted the many features from the battle there so long ago. I was encouraged to visit that area by General Gavin’s book On To Berlin where he describes his walk down that trail. My father was wounded there in November 1944 and was evacuated to England to recover from his wounds. The last time I was there around 2002, my wife and I had a great lunch at Mestrenger Muehle. Is this still open as a restaurant? Many people would not even know it is there as it was down a secluded dirt road with no real markings!

It maybe reopened this year. The whole valley was devastated by the infamous July 2022 flood.

@@mestrenger Wow. I had not heard about that flood. I bet a lot of previously hidden artifacts from the past were unearthed?

For years I went there looking for the famous dams in that area. I searched and searched and appeared to come up empty handed. Finally, I realized I had been passing over it all that time as the roadway ran right atop the dam. I sure felt silly but happy I finally did find it!

@@geodes4762 It was the worst flood in a century and hundreds of people got killed. Ammunition and artefacts where found a lot in the Ahr Valley to the south (it‘s estuary is at Remagen). In the Kall Valley amore than half of the bridges where washed away.

@@mestrenger My last time there I picked up a few stone fragments from the infamous stone outcropping on the Kall Trail on the Vossenach side of the valley that was an impediment to the passage of American M4 Shermans. I was going to mount these into a wall plaque but somehow misplaced them during one of my many moves since then!

I am sorry to hear of that. I think we are a few people out there looking forward to that english version. I do understand the difficulties but please do what you can to get the english version out. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for posting this collection of documentals about the Huertgenwald bloody fight during the last months of 1944. I visited the museum in Vossenack on March 2008 - was snowing at that time - also visited the cementery. We were very impressed feeling he snow and the silence. Best wishes from Barcelona
