Years ago I remember an acquaintance mentioned how this was their favorite song. I came here and was mesmerized. I completely forgot about it until just now. Don't know what made it pop back into mind. All I could remember was the video being stop motion, nothing about the rhythm, lyrics, or subject of the video. But somehow searching up "stop motion music video" brought it right up immediately. Lucky me.

I remember my bio teacher showing this to us as inspiration for a stop motion project. I missed it so I’m back 10 years later

My music queue fed me this track, and I was immediately reminded of Dusty Springfield songing The Windmills of Your Mind, for the 1969 heist film The Thomas Crown Affair. That pne has a similarly haunting circular quality, and I wondered if they're connected. I did a little digging, and apparently Oren has written a children's book called The Bear Who Wasn't There. It's about a bear who wants to find out what kind of bear he is. Is he Kind? Clever? Handsome? He meets friends on his journey through the woods and they show him how to find himself. So, now I think this track is about losing a sense of self. The narrator looks at his past from a distnce and can't identify with it, because he's changed. The music has a cascading slippery sound to it, like water running by, or time rushing forward. It's sad but not hopeless. Change is unsettling, time and aging can sneak up on us, but there's always a chance for the man who isn't there to see himself in the mirror again.
