How do people afford the beautiful houses in New England? Are they inherited or are their owners all successful business men, doctors and lawyers?

I always liked to imagine that H.P. Lovecraft, during countless nighttime walks throughout his beloved city of Providence, stopped here for refreshments.

Not only some of the best scenery in the continent, but also the region with the highest quality of life in the US. We moved here for quality of life and it was the best move of our lives. We live in NH but VT is just as awesome. Both states are also the safest in the nation. One spot that's well worth it is Burlington, with a charming downtown, a busy walkable and carless downtown, and spectacular views of Lake Champlain. The only time of the year to avoid is Spring. First is mud season and then black flies. But fortunately, those two events run back-to-back and last about a month and a half. The rest of the year is heaven on earth.

How are the summers there? I was in the area of I-90 across MA, and in Portsmouth, NH ( overnight was all ) but that was sadly it. Really would love to return there in 2021. Like i mentioned earlier in these comments, I'm looking for a particular place, as well, but I've always wanted to visit the area more thoroughly.

Summers are humid but enjoyable. The water is near and if you are not an oceans person, you can go to the lakes nearby or the rivers. Summers in my opinion are bearable but I know it may be something to get use to, because humid heat is different than dry heat. However, summer and fall are my favorite seasons.

It's true, you just scratched the surface in this trip and video. I've lived in New England most of my life and seen only a fraction of it. It's beautiful, historic, with wonderful towns, wooden covered bridges, playhouses, museums and much more. I always recommend a vacation to New England.

This is what I'm planning to do, in 2021. Looking for the most colorful Fall foliage, quaint, politically-progressive, place. Also eclectic restaurants, and 50's style diners, the region has to offer. Other than driving for a job interview from Syracuse, NY to Boston, MA, almost 4 yrs ago, I have never been through any of the area, and have for years, been wanting to really check it out. Can you recommend any areas? If I found a place that matched most of these choices, I likely would never want to return home to Portland, OR lol.
@douglasdea6374 жыл бұрын
@@jodiskylar9452 I know Massachusetts and New Hampshire best. I'm living in NH now. It would be too easy to write "all of it." So I'll try to focus a bit more. Much depends on what you like and the time of year. I prefer summer over winter when places are open and things more lively. The Lake Sunapee region is a favorite of mine. New London is a pretty town with the old Barn Playhouse a quaint place to see a show. The Lake Winnipesaukee region also has much to offer. If you want to see natural beauty and do leaf peeping I'd recommend the Kancamaugus highway region with Lincoln at one end and Conway at the other. The Flume Gorge and Lost River gorge are nice to see. In the summer you can go to the top of Mount Washington via a scary road or the Cog Railway. Of course Maine and Vermont have endless beauty as well. What I often suggest to people is bring up Google Images and type in what they are interested in, such as "Maine towns" or "New Hampshire beauty". Look at the images and decide if you'd like to see such in person. Go from there. Hopefully next year will be more normal and everything will be open. I hope to travel to Vermont for some sight seeing. There are free travel planner and maps at: www.visitwhitemountains.com/

@@douglasdea637 Thanks Douglas! Well, my favorite season, is the Fall ( and what attracts me to that region of the country, the most. ) The White Mtns are beautiful! I got to spend a weekend in Portsmouth, NH about 3 yrs ago in October, and absolutely *loved* that place! I hadn't heard about many of the places you mention here, but about NH/MA, and other areas of New England, which would you describe as the most "quaint" of towns/cities there?
@tallogden17323 жыл бұрын
You just described Portsmouth N.H.. Portsmouth itself can be expensive to rent or buy but the surrounding communities can be more reasonable. The entire N.H. Seacoast area is kind of like one community with Portsmouth as one hub and 15 minutes inland is Durham, the home to U.N.H., as the other hub. The area is an hour drive to Boston or Portland. An hour and a half drive gets you to the mountains. Portsmouth is also one of the greatest cities in he whole country for dining. And there is a diner. As long as you can find joy in a long winter, it might be the best place in the world to live. Cheers!
@jodiskylar94523 жыл бұрын
@@tallogden1732 So are Durham and Portsmouth similar? I visited Portsmouth one weekend ( just the town, not the surrounding area ) and Boston another weekend when I was living in upstate NY.

Before the "indians" the solutreans were there, and before that there were a ton of native animals. Even during the "indian" times dozens of tribes went to war with each other over who's land is who's.
