I enjoyed the live stream. I think for now, since I am losing guppies out of the 29 from the cold, I should grab half the colonies of white clouds and Medaka and use the 29 for backup colonies since they seem to handle the cold well enough.

That's sounds like a good plan, and they will be much happier than the guppies.

I'm stoked to see Crypts & Sagittaria thriving at 60 degrees. Did you catch the Pickerel ? He couldn't coexist with anybody smaller than the sunny? Long time subscriber appreciate the tour. Looking for a school of red face face someday and have kept grass pickerel on my radar for a while but I'm more community as opposed to one or two consumptive predators
@MrBeeznutz20 күн бұрын
Yes, my youngest daughter caught the pickerel while fishing for sunfish. I'd imagine you could keep them with slightly smaller fish if you had a big enough tank. I put a 6-inch Chub in there once, and he had it in his mouth within 10 minutes. Dace are cool fish, I can find some eastern black nose dace around me, they are like miniature trout in my opinion, very active.
@VitRav22 күн бұрын
How’s the grass pickerel overall?
@MrBeeznutz19 күн бұрын
Overall, it's pretty chill until it comes to feeding time. He's almost boring if kept alone. That's why I keep a sunfish in there, creates a little completion.

I love your fish room. You have some “basic” things and some more unusual things, but it’s all just stuff you like. Awesome that you have a space that stays cooler. I think most people keep lots of fish warmer than they need to be, and they make things way too complicated.

Put in some floating plants with big roots with the medaka then they'll breed. You'll have to make a little room in the lid for air to get in for the floating plants most likely. Most of them will rot if the humidity gets too high. Amazon frogbit will do just fine in 59F.

@MrBeeznutz24 күн бұрын
No offense taken, but we might have to agree to disagree on this one. Brown bulkheads have darker barbells where yellow bullhead have white barrels. These all have white barbells. Plus, nanfa.org doesn't even list brown bullhead in my local waterways, which these came out of.
@trevorbergstrom0024 күн бұрын
@@MrBeeznutz I guess yellow bullheads only get that yellow when they're in natural sunlight or maybe it's the black substrate doing it. You're right 👍

I'm 70+ years old and have had aquariums of some type or the other forever. I like livebearers and angelfish(freshwater). Seems like Petco and Petsmart fish just aren't as tough as they use to be. Maybe too inbred. I always though it was illegal to have native fish so I never tried them, but they seem alot stronger. I should probably try one or two. Which do you consider the most colorful? I don't fish so where do you get them? Enjoyed your video.

It's awesome that you have been in the hobby that long. Each state is different as far as native fish and collecting and keeping in Aquariums go. Fortunately, here in Indiana, all I need is a valid fishing liscence to possess them. I would recommend some rainbow shiners. They are very pretty and quite easy to order online and have shipped right to your house.

These are nice and healthy fish. But oh it is so nice to see fish not like the poor fancy goldfish but in their natural shape and health.
