I watched this video 13 years ago and it made me switch from regular RC to FPV RC. It’s been a lot of fun. I live in the desert southwest and have had hundreds of of great flights. Thanks. Still cracks me up when you land at your feet and rock back on your heals.
@toddsher2112Ай бұрын
@@av8rshane491 I haven't flown an FPV wing like this in years, but the memory of landing at my feet like that still forces an uncontrollable smile and makes me long to do it again. I'm glad it made you smile too, and I hope you are still out there flying the beautiful landscapes of the Southwest.

@@av8rshane491 I’ve been thinking about joining an AMA club and flying regular RC again, but FPV really is the funnest flying there is. If you want to fly, get as much enjoyment out of it as possible before it is completely banned.

LOL, there wasn't much to look at. The destruction was absolute, just tiny fragments of fiberglass and wood. Sorry to disappoint! He asked me not to show the wreckage, so I respected his wish. He could have been identified and punished, and he clearly loved his hobby, given how many jets he had stacked in his trailer.

Thanks AlanzFPV. Flew shots from a bunch of locations inside and outside of the park. It's been so long, I don't remember specifics. Of course, now the State Parks have almost all banned drones since this video was made, so kind of pointless. :{

Music with words killed the video after about 1 minute in ........stick to sound tracks that are majestic.
@toddsher21124 жыл бұрын
This happens to be one of my all-time favorite rock songs by one of my favorite bands, and it perfectly fits the subject matter! While I also prefer majestic soundtracks for most aerial cinema, as you know if you've seen my work, this one was an exception. These guys risked life and limb to get good shots, so they deserved something to match their energy and dedication. Their sport is not well served by peaceful soundtracks. That's my opinion of course, but since I'm the one making the film, that's the one I'll go with. :) Cheers, and thanks for watching.

Do you still have your Reaper? Was GoPro mounted on a gimbal. I hardly see any jello, very nicely done. If you have to do this again what would be your choice of gear? Excellent footage and editing, love all your videos.
@toddsher21124 жыл бұрын
Hey Riz! Yes, it was a Grim Reaper. No Gimbal, just hard mounted the GoPro above the nose. Because of the short distance between the prop and camera, it's important that you balance the propeller and have a well balanced motor as well. A little extra space on the larger ReaperXL is good for stability and getting longer flight times. It's a soft EPP foam plane, so it can handle bumps and rough landings pretty well, but it wobbles a bit the air. RiteWingRC made a plane called the Zephyr that was more stable in flight and got better video, but it was hard EPS foam and much less forgiving when hitting things and harder to repair if damaged. I think they still sell it. If you are new to FPV, get a Reaper. Once you've gotten good at it, if you feel like the video still isn't stable enough for you, then try a Zephyr or similar wing. There are dozens of wings to choose from now from many manufacturers, but I couldn't make a current recommendation beyond what I have flown.
@RizHassan4 жыл бұрын
@@toddsher2112 Thanks for the feedback TJ. Lee Aston from CrashTestHobby send me your youtube channel link and yes I have a Reaper fitted with RunCam, but too much jello. I will try balancing the prop as you have suggested. California mountains are too windy. Friend of my lend me his DJI Ocusync system which I tested on Grim Reaper, amazing FPV experience. I am thinking of switching my 5.8VTx to DJI based system.
@toddsher21124 жыл бұрын
@@RizHassan Yeah, going to the HD video completely changes the experience. Balancing the prop is important, but if you still have a ton of jello, then it's probably the motor bell. The bell is just a metal ring with magnets glued to the interior, but those motors are often REALLY out of balance, usually because the glue inside doesn't distribute evenly. Mount your motor to a bench, download a vibration detection app for your phone and put it on the table next to your motor, then power it up. Note the peak vibration level. Then take a small piece of tape and stick it on one side of your motor and spin it up again. See if the vibration goes up or down. If it goes up, then move the tape a bit and try again until the vibration goes down. When you find the sweet spot, add another bit of tape and see if it goes down more. Get the vibration as low as you can. By balancing your motor bell, you can reduce a TON of vibration. It takes time, but it's a good investment if you care about creating smooth video. Cheers!

Great video!

Wow, I rarely watch videos from beginning to the end, but this one is so captivating, with the motion, the music, the steep dives down along the rocks, and Utah's scenery, one of the most amazing in the world. And this is published in 2011, so many years before the drone hype, still some of the aerials are better than what can be accomplished by a drone!
