after 3 chain mails and a scale mail with butted, I figured I'll try this. I cannot reproduce this. I feel like I wasted my money and it's so frustrating.

Good techniques closing the rings. I need those pliers! Big hands with the small handle pliers makes the hands sore.

Hi John. i have a welder that is just like that. i noticed first off that you have an interesting way the tungsten needle is positioned on a stand, and i do not see the gun. needle is exposed. which i am novice so please forgive me, im curious, if i may ask where can i get that set up? Also, i noticed it seems like you are touching the jump ring and / or top of your grounding pliers (which are not coated with plastic protection) with your finger tips. I didn't think you were supposed to touch those items. im happy to see that you do, i would like to as well, but a little timid at this starting point.

We must find out how this is made, it’ll give us the power to make gokus weighted shirt cause it was chainmail with a dense metal and an automated machine would make the wait not long at all

unrelated to the video but could i ask whats going on with the prices for the high carbon steel extra large scales? back in 2021 i had bought a bag and they were $10.30 for 100 now they are $40.42 for 100 is there any idea when or even if they will go back down?

So I get that I'm like a decade late to the party. But at 3:37 you mention using a pair of pliers to test the ring weld strength, and using a pair of pliers with some notches ground in them so the ring doesn't fly off the tip. Snap Ring Pliers are the tool you've halfway made, there, and I'd wager they're probably more safe from losing what you're working on, though less versatile than your option as they're not also cutting pliers.

Dumb question here, but it's a beginner weave so I suppose it's ok to ask: what is the difference between "awg" and "swg"? What do these terms even mean? I'd love to see a video describing basic "glossary" terms and why they're important (it took me a long time to figure out that I couldn't make a persian 6-1 because I had the wrong gauge, so it would be good to know this stuff, too)

Great idea and question! AWG is American Wire Gauge and SWG is Standard Wire Gauge. Some places use all AWG, some use SWG and some, like us, use a mixture. So for any of our rings, 20g (0.8mm wire diameter) and thinner (so the higher the number the thinner the wire) are measured in AWG. 19g (1.0mm wire diameter) and thicker (the lower the number the thicker the wire) are measured in SWG. When you look at our website, we will give the wire diameter, usually somewhere at the top of the page, like this: Wire OD: 0.08" (2mm = 14g SWG = 12g AWG) - decimal inches, millimeters, then SWG and the generally recognized AWG equivalent (they aren't exactly equal to one another, but it's close enough to not make a huge difference). You can actually skip the SWG and AWG altogether and shop in decimal inches or millimeters. Any reputable chainmaille outfit should give you those numbers. Also, check out our Facebook page - I've done Ring Size Guides for a lot of weaves there, so you know which of our rings you can use for a bunch of different weaves. Look in our photos and there's an album for all the Ring Size Guides. -Jodey, TRL Creative Manager

possibly spot weld it. but it leaves a little soot behind, which i wipe but the actual weld spot is darker. not sure of size wire you'd use. but this welder can weld 22 gauge wire easy... as example. i have this welder.

most likely still "butted" chainmail, actual effective chainmail is called rivetted chainmail (and honestly looks better as well) but having butted chainmail in medieval and medieval fantasy themed movies and shows is still just leagues more immersive than having the dumbest looking scale armor ever, and it serves to show the dedication of peter Jackson that he went the extra mile to have as I heard it the entire staff and maybe even some cast aid in putting that chainmail into the armors of the gondorian soldiers and offcourse orcs and so on asside from that the scene where the weapons for the uruk hai are forged is real, they had the craftsmen working on it wear orc costumes and had their workshop decorated just to make an especially immersive and awe inspiring scene. the rings of power may have all the money in the damn world they had no true passion for either tolkien, his books his ideas or in fact for going the extra mile for an awesome scene. the costumes look half assed, only the cgi is pretty which with a billion dollar budget it better be
