A lot more ice since the last "test run". Now it's a large ice field as opposed to just pockets of ice. He was trying some hunting out there, but not seal approved yet. Won't be long now precious! 🐻❄🐟💖💙💜

Yes. The southern winds that blew the ice out over the last week have turned to the NE and has blown the ice back in. Next week is forecast to be in the single digits. That will really get the ice forming. :)

That was insane. The ice can't be that thick at all, it still 'waves' but that enormous creature was able to pick its way across so that it never fell through, a couple near misses but it never actually fell through.

The ice is always moving. Even in the middle of winter. They are masters at navigating it. :)

4 unrelated males. Polar bears are solitary most of the year. This is the only this time of year they congregate to wait for the ice to form on Hudson Bay that they tolerate each other's presence. Males (all ages) hang out and spar (play fight). It's a way to socialize and practice fighting for when they fight for real during mating season in spring out on the ice. :)

What is fascinating is that when the bear walks away, it doesn't just wander off or follow the general direction of other bears. The bear literally follows in the footsteps of a previous bear. That is a both cool and terrifying that bears will follow each others trail so exactly. A person can never know exactly how many there are ahead. 😆
