I know I'm replying to a 3 old video but it seems to me very odd to paint some contrast between the society described here and say, medieval Europe, as gender parallelism vs gender hierarchy when we're still looking at very circumscribed roles for women. Now, putting aside the question of what kind of genders existed in medieval Europe or the validity of the theory of patriarchy to explain gender oppression (as formulated by Sara Ahmed etc), one could easily speak of European women fulfilling important religious functions, folk medicine, being revered after death, even participating in war and governance. Yet we would clearly, and correctly, oppose any evaluation of this a society where women had equality/equity with men.

Mi pregunta, sin el uso de genealogía o ADN (DNA), como es posible que uno pueda declararse o identificarse ser “COCA”? Con tantas tribus indígenas distintas que iban y venían a estas regiónes como de Mezacala, Cocula, Sayula, Zacoalco, Acatlán de Juárez, se me hace casi imposible que uno pueda decir que proviene de los Cocas. Pienso yo que tarde o temprano, el ADN nos va dar más información sobre esta cultura indígena (COCA). Quería compartir algo de los Mastadones. El Mamut (fósil) que se encuentra en el Museo de Guadalajara es de General Andrés Figueroa “Santa Catarina”, Jalisco. El pueblo está pegado a los lagos de sal que en algún tiempo muy atrás, eran parte de el Lago de Chapala. Mucho más atrás (miles de años) la región de los lagos era parte del Océano Pacífico. Es por eso que se encuentran fósiles de ballenas en estos lagos. Los restos de los Mamuts es algo más reciente. También quería mencionar que mis bisabuelos eran dueños de un rancho con el nombre “El Tepalcatal”. Mi papá cuenta que donde escarbabas, sacaba uno trastes de los indígenas. No había lugar donde metía una pala y no sacaba uno tepalcate. El rancho “El Tepalcatal” se encuentra a uno kilómetro de donde se encontró el Mamut de Santa Catarina (Municipio de Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco). Se supone que esta región era COCA.

Good idea to at least share the words in your channel. Some of us might have heard these words (names) when growing up or might still be using them without knowing the origin. Good example would be the name that many of us from the Jalisco rancherias use for "Hormigas" (insect). We use the word "Asquil" (varies). This word, and its spelling or name variants, is widely used throughout Jalisco to identify the more commonly used name (Hormiga-Spanish, Ant-English). FYI, we use the word or name "hormiga" to identify the much larger ants. We use the word "Asquil" to identify smaller ants. Many people I know from Zacatecas love using the word "Asquilines" to describe smaller ants, in place of using the word "hormigitas". Thanks for posting

Gold mine of information! I have been working on my family genealogy for some time now. Through family oral history and looking up family baptismal and marriage records I have discovered indigenous Purepecha ancestors from Michoacan. But I also have family from Ocotlan and Otatlan Jalisco and have also found indigenous ancestors from those areas too going back 7 generations Unfortunately I do not know much about the history of this part of my family like there roots as much as I know about my Michoacan side. But I suspect I might have Coca or Tecuexe possibly both heritage. Thanks for this great video!
