You are correct but Princess Plus and Premier are commissionable. There are other packages that are not and it varies from cruise line to cruise line. Plus and Premier are though. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for the review. The table format, showing both the alcohol and non-alcohol comparisons was particularly helpful. If you include the casual dining costs, it makes it even more economical. What is better, is that you have priced in USD. In Australia, the plus package is $65 AUD per day which is about $45USD, so it is even better value. So, thanks for that, I will be adding Plus to my booking.

The new extended Premier package is a great package, no matter if its a 7 day cruise or a 30 day cruise. For $90 a day, you get the new unlimited specialty dinners. That means you don't need to worry about when you want to schedule your 2 specialty dinners, now every lunch/dinner is a specialty. Couple that with unlimited drinks and unlimited Wi-Fi, I am firmly believing that $90 is a great deal. I'm currently on the Royal, heading from LA to Sydney on a repositioning cruise. So I spent $90x29 days, so $2700. With everything above plus all the extras you get with the new extended Premier is something you should get.

I just checked my cruise last night and their new fare is $300 less. We got that $300 credit towards our fare. We've been on 22 cruises so far and many more booked for the next couple years. We have only missed one port because of weather. That's pretty good.

@@TidalHorizons Not sure. I called and told them the fare difference, he checked our reservation and then he said we'll get the credit. I asked if it would be an onboard credit and he took it right off our balance. This was the only one that was cheaper. All the others are hundreds of dollars higher. I book mine years ahead of the date.

Sometimes we got upgrades. Changing itinerary can happen anytime. We had cancelled ports on a few cruises not just Princess.

I stumbled on the Princess trick. They refund your non-refundable deposit to OBC. If you don't plan to burn it on excursions or something else, buy the package when you get on board and use the credit then.

You know, that's an excellent question and not something that I've covered on the channel, mostly because they don't seem to promote it when you aren't on the ship. I'm going to do a little more research and see if I brought anything back with me from the Sun Princess in the summer. What I can tell you is that it's directly related to the point I was making in the most recent video I posted about Princess Traps. It's all about putting as much of your money as possible in their bank accounts for as long as they can before sailing. It's helping them pay down debt. Point #1 - as someone who has done 12 cruises with Princess in the last 10 years (with 3 booked in the future), I love the Plus and Premier programs. I remember when it started it was $40 a day which included gratuities, drinks and wi-fi (substandard at that time). We usually get the Plus because we are lucky enough to get a decent amount of OBC from owning stock, military retirement, casino and sometimes an extra incentive by Princess. So, for a 14-day cruise it works for us doing just the Plus package. Now, we have in the future a very long cruise of 54 days and we do not get as much OBC, so we agreed to get the Premier package. This is our retirement cruise and so looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing!

I just booked my first cruise for Thanksgiving and I’m stoked. I got the premiere package for all the perks. I’m having issues trying to book dinner reservations on the app it keeps showing $45 each which should be zero for premiere

Thank you for the Star Princess update. We are booked on the Star Princess for our third Alaska cruise in June 2026 and can’t wait. Our first Alaska cruise was a land and sea on the Coral Princess in September 2010 and we are booked for our second Alaska cruise on the Royal Princess May 31, 2025. It will be interesting to see the differences between the three ships.

Thanks for sharing. The reason I love booking Silver Seas, Seabourne, and Ritz Carlton Yacht is for the fancy dining. I have booked Explora Journey for next year and I am looking for fancy dining and fine wines. We tried Celebrity Beyond for the first time on September 1, 2024 sailing and we felt like the food was awful 😞. We are planning on trying Princess next year and hopefully the specialty restaurants are better than Celebrity Beyond specialty restaurants.

On Princess, you'll want to get signed up for the Chef's Table and/or the Winemaker's Dinners once you are onboard if you want the elevated dining experience. The $45 specialty dining restaurants probably won't meet your expectations. If you go on Sun Princess, the LOVE by Britto sounds like it's up your alley, plus what I mentioned above. Explora Journeys you will enjoy for sure. It's got that real European flavor to it and the food is excellent and mostly included. The French and Asian restaurants are particularly good. Glad you enjoyed it! The eSIMs that Airalo sells can be country specific or regional. Last time I was in the Caribbean, I had one that covered Barbados, Dominica, Curacao and Aruba. Does princess open any of the specialty dining venues for lunch during sea days?

Traditionally they haven’t opened for lunch and only used the restaurants for wine tastings and special events. But in a recent webinar I attended one of their F&B directors said that they may be considering opening them because of the changes to Princess Premier to add unlimited specialty dining. Nothing official yet.

No, not if that's all you are going to have in a day then it doesn't make sense for Plus or Premium. Have a look at my Princess Plus video, at 12:55 I break down a basic no-alcohol package and find approximately where you would need to be for it to make sense. What he missed regarding the thermal suite is that the quality of the thermal suite differs from ship to ship. The newer the ship is, the nicer the thermal suite is. Enchanted, Discover, Sun and Sky Princess have the nicest thermal suites, and I love to spend time there... particularly in the morning and late in the day, when it's not as busy as it is in mid-afternoon.

Thanks for watching, "nice" didn't really factor into the money saving theme of the video, it was more about do you actually have time to use it properly considering the itinerary etc. I've used the suite in all the ones you mentioned but Discovery plus a few more. My favorite so far was actually on Majestic Princess, perhaps it was the cold Alaska weather we had, but that was well worth it for me on that sailing.

I've never once heard of Princess charging more to add Princess Plus or Princess Premium onboard, and I've been on nine cruises with Princess.

You are correct and I'll amend that next time. However, if you are paying with a non-US dollar credit card (Canadian for instance), you would end up paying more on the ship than in advance with the conversion. Princess has a more favorable exchange rate when paying in your home currency on the website or when booking than most credit cards do when converting USD to CDN or GBP or EUR. There are certainly reasons to wait and buy onboard too, like if you get a deal that includes a big onboard credit, use that towards your package! Thanks for watching.

Every single change is simply to discourage the ‘Standard’ fare passenger… every single one without exception! Raise item prices to the sky and add it back in for free with a package is clear and transparent as possible… Princess is determined to remove standard fares completely. I can't say you are wrong, that's for sure but I almost feel like Princess is one of the last to embrace the packages. Even back in early 2022 on Royal Caribbean, I couldn't believe the prices they were charging and it was mostly to encourage the purchase of their drinks packages. This isn't something that has been announced, could be a supply issue or a change. I think the mini bar perk is a declining one given the popularity of the Plus and Premier packages. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see changes next year in the Captain's Circle benefits. Thanks for watching!

Ships of all major cruise lines are filing up and many are selling out. Booked a fall 2025 transatlantic last month, friends are booking now and few balcony cabins are left. Prices have gone up and people are still booking.

I noticed that Princess wouldn't allow traditional dining to be booked until the cruise is paid for and no longer can a cruise be accessed by the computer website. This is a real disappointment, I spend more money when I don't have to call for every little thing, I don't use a smart phone.

Yes, on the latest video I posted, it gets into when you can book based on your room type or Captain's Circle status. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omOzZ6yarNSLpKM There is a web-based version of the Princess App where you can make reservations. Sign into the Princess website and then manage your booking. Scroll down and you'll see check in with the Princess App "Don't have a compatible device? Try our web version". That version will allow you to do pretty much everything you need to do for dining etc. Also, it was communicated in a recent meeting with Travel Agents that the dining would be brought back to the main Cruise Personalizer on the website soon. No date given though. Hope that helps! Andrew

Thank you for this video. We are booked on the Sun Princess in December, in room 15421, with the new Premier Package. I have already booked specialty restaurants for every night of our cruise. We have just received an email giving us the opportunity to bid on a Sanctuary balcony, or a Sanctuary mini suite. Is the Sanctuary Club worth it? I'm looking for a quieter area to sit and read and do not want to be fighting people for lounge chairs or space in the shade. And unless the Sanctuary restaurant is open for breakfast or lunch, we won't be going to it. Thoughts?

It remains to be seen because it's not in use yet! The Sanctuary restaurant will be open for breakfast and open for lunch on sea days. The breakfast is nice because it's relaxed and as quick as you need it to be. The Sanctuary rooms is probably worth bidding on for you to get access to the Club, guaranteed peace (no kids). But if you don't get it or if you think it's too expensive, there is a ton of options around for quiet space.

Re your comment regarding when reservations open for dining, we are Platinum, our cruise us not til May 2025 but we reserved dining in both MDR and Crown Grill for our party of 9 when we're still over 300 days out.

Yes, I think what I was getting at is they don't have a defined period when a reservation window opens for booking like say Disney World where you can book 180 days ahead or whatever it is. Really hard to say why that would be. Perhaps try a different web browser like Firefox? I had difficulty using the Princess Travel Agent site using Google Chrome but no issues in Firefox. Sorry I can't be of more help there!

I had the same problem. Solved it as follows: With browser on Princess web page. Click upper right corner of browser for more options. Click "Delete browsing data" or comparable choice. Should eliminate problem.

If you find a mainstream cruise line that isn't doing this, be sure to let me know! The only thing I'm going to defend Princess on here is that I still find their packages reasonable compared to the minimums that competitors are charging. The price of a Royal Caribbean cruise on one of their big ships is huge! Personally, I'm at the point of giving my money to luxury cruise lines, paying more for smaller ships and having it be all inclusive, they just aren't terribly family friendly. I'm not really sure what the answer is. Thanks for watching!

I did a mock booking for December 2025 on RCL Icon and for an inside room, it was more expensive than we are paying for our Sun Princess Cabana Mini suite with the original princess premiere for the same.

So, I purposely left out that style of cruising as well as River Cruises, this just concentrates on the Ocean going motor cruises. I feel like sailing ships need their own category of luxury because certainly you are giving up some things onboard a sailing vessel over a cruise ship and it wouldn't be fair to compare head to head. Have you been on either of those? If so, what did you prefer? Andrew

Im with you about dropping the dinner portion, its not really the cost its the menu, its not for me and my husband doesn’t eat fish so it had a-lot to be desired..dropping the dinner portion and drinks and a show would be a much better idea. Agree with hoping the smaller and older Coral Princess and Island Princess ships stay on the fleet. Just sailed the Island Princess ship earlier this year and had one of our best cruises ever on any cruise line!

Great video! I crunched the numbers & the HIA made sense for us for our Alaska cruise. Add in that we qualified for the HIA Early Booking Bonus, and it was even more of a no-brainer. However, for our upcoming 5-day Mexican Riviera Carnival cruise, none of their drink packages would be right for us, not even the soda package. We'll bring our own 12 pack, plus 1 bottle of wine, then pay as we go.

Good on you for crunching the numbers to see what works best! Really, if passengers took 10 minutes to have that honest conversations with themselves, they'd really save money either by getting it or not getting it. I met people on a recent Princess cruise that were talked into the top tier package by the cruise line rep that had no idea what they bought, didn't even drink alcohol or coffee. Thanks for watching!

Prices for coffee went from $3 to $4 and cover charge at Sabatinnis from $35 to $45. Thats 25% and 28% increase . Then plus 18.2% gratuities are added.

I'm fairly certain that most coffees were $4 when I was on Island/Enchanted last fall, but that might have been specialty coffees. I don't recall cover charges at the time, I tried looking at the folio, but we had such a mish-mash of kids and guests with us, I can't tell. I know that in December / January all ships went to $39 + 18% and Sun launched at $45 + 18%. It's a pretty drastic increase. It does however make a case for Princess Premium if you really like the specialty dining over included I suppose. Thanks for watching!

We just returned from Alaska last month. We sailed from Seattle on the Discovery Princess for a 7-day inside passage cruise. You are definitely right. We were in a forward facing suite on deck 11 and that is the best way to visit Alaska!

We booked the mini suite(plus package) on the Sun Princess room #12611. A little confused if this is a standard mini suite or is it automatically considered the Sanctuary or Reserve room. Can you explain? TIA

No, that is just a regular mini-suite. You can go onto the Deck Plans section on the Princess Website and look at the categories on the left. For example, you are in a category MD Mini Suite while stateroom 12441 is a sanctuary mini suite category M1. There are only 123 Sanctuary Mini Suites onboard while there are hundreds of non-sanctuary. Most, if not all Sanctuary Mini Suites used to be Reserve Mini Suites although not all Reserves became Sanctuary. Confused? It's a marketing plot. They are hoping that more people upgrade to plus or premiere just for the specialty dining. Smart move by princess. I guarantee people will upgrade to at least plus to eat at the spectacular dining places.

@@TidalHorizons if you don't upgrade your package to plus or premium, they would treat you like a second class citizen. Would you like going on cruise and being constantly reminded that you are a second class citizen ? there are better choices, I am not going back to princess.

I'm not sure the crew really care how you choose to pay for things during your cruise or what you do during the cruise. I would however agree with you more about the addition of the Sanctuary Collection though, because that really is creating a first class and second class onboard with the ship within a ship concept. Exclusive areas and such. The packages are more about convenience and how you want to cruise, at least from my experience anyway. What cruise line would you choose to go with instead? Andrew

@@Curtisluu1 NCL has been doing this for a long time with the Haven. The staff doesn't really care if you are not in the highest class. I did notice just a bit on NCL that the steerage part of the ship could get a tad crowded (eg the sports court on a sea day in particular). I'm not sure if Princess is cordoning off as much of the ship as NCL does (on the Breakaway and newer ships).

Nice video. Like to do land and sea with the train ride. Trying to figure out the best one to do with Princess. So much to learn.

The Cruise Tours are definitely the way to go if you have that time. I'd highly suggest working with a travel planner who has expertise with Princess, there are something like 70 variations of cruisetours you can do! Thanks for watching!

Hopefully you mean 2pm! There are various shore excursion transfers that you can take if you aren't on a cruise tour. Whitter itself is pretty tiny!
