Nice. I'm curious... where did you find the after market tool rest? It looks much more sturdy than the stock one.

Nice work, fun to watch. Keep turning and having fun. Pro tip: the magnetic tool bar can magnetize to tool, which makes it not slide on the tool rest as easily. (Thanks to David Ellsworth for the original tip many years ago.)
@bartswoodshop72122 жыл бұрын
Good to know. I am assuming it’s like a screwdriver, give it a good whack and it is no longer magnetized.

I just ordered this model and I'm waiting for fedex to drop it off hopefully tomorrow. I appreciated seeing the unboxing and set up. I havn't used a lathe since highschool woodshop. So it was nice to see someones first time setting up and using it. I've already got a stack of 8 - 12 inch logs that are waiting to be turned. So excited. One question though, is there a way to bolt it to the work table? Or is it heavy enough to where that isn't necessary?

Please excuse my ignorance, but is the 18”, the distance between centres? If so, that’s a nice lathe. Doesn’t look too bulky or too heavy, yet sturdy.

It's been close to 9 months so how do you like your WEN lathe now. I watched another WEN video and he sent his back and picked up the JET lathe cause he wasn't happy with the WEN for the work that he did.

I love it, I have had no issues it works well. The only thing I had trouble with was the cast iron tool rest, i got a nasty catch and snapped it off. I got a steel one to replace it and its been great.

I love it my only regret was not getting the variable speed option, but i was on a budget and the 5 speed isn't bad, just takes a minuet to move the belt on the spindle . The one other thing is the tool rest is cast iron, and gets little dings in it pretty easily. You may want to upgrade to a steel one they are not expensive like $20 or $30
