In 1981, just after John passed, Paul and Linda invited legendary rockabilly musician Carl Perkins to stay with them on the Island of Montserrat. It was literally just weeks after John’s murder, and both George and Ringo also came to spend time with their former bandmate. The night before Carl was scheduled to leave, a song came to him that summed up his warm feelings about the visit. The song was so clear in his mind that he didn’t even write it down, which was unusual for Carl. He played the song, “My Old Friend”, for Paul and Linda, explaining that it was a gift for having him as a guest. Halfway through the song when Carl sang the words: “If we never meet again on this side of life, in a little while, over yonder, where there’s peace and quiet, my old friend, won’t you think about me every now and then?”, Paul stood up and abruptly left the room with tears streaming down his face. Not sure what had happened, Carl stopped playing, and Linda hugged him. She thanked him for helping Paul grieve, explaining that he hadn’t been able to fully break down since John passed. Paul later explained that the last words John spoke to him, in the hallway of the Dakota building, were, “Think about me now and then old friend”...💖

when we lose those we love, we realize that life goes on and thats a hard fact to face..when my wife passed away at Christmas, i woke up after her funeral and just walking through our home looking at all the things that were part of her life and that feeling hit me like freight train that i would never see her again until my last breath was taken and i could do nothing but break down and the tears came like a river..and here i am 9 years later still hurting..i think about her every moment of every day,,if only i could tell her one more time how much i loved her..

I felt this way when my cat Althea died. People don’t like it when people mention their pets in this context, like as if they are lesser than a relationship to another human, but I don’t agree with that logic anyway. I still feel this way four years later. It feels weird to admit but the way I found to “go on” was very selfish, like just focusing back on myself again entirely. Idk.

My dad said his sound is inspired by John Entwhistle, and John Paul Jones. He also expressed that he loves the Beatles a whole Lot. Perhaps without Noticing his sound is actually Inspired by Paul McCartney and John Entwhistle, as well as John Paul Jones. With great Emphasis on Paul McCartney and John Entwhistle. Also I think his music was also heavily inspired by the Guitar in this song and they didn't even realize it lol. P.S. My father is Robert (Bob) George Vincent. From the old band Balls Against the Wall (B.A.T.W.) as well as the Studio Project they had called Crossroads. My father was the Bassist, Guitarist, Occasionally Keyboard, synth, also was the one whom owned, worked the Studio. Sadly he retired from Playing aswell as working for Xerox. He writes Horror Fiction Books now under the Pen name G.A. Miller. PPS: I own his Fender Stratocaster BlackTop HH in Candy Apple Red, and Roland MicroCube now for roughly 3 or 4 in a half years now. Not all of his songs are on Yt but some are, his website link on his channel is no longer valid but you can still find his music on SoundClick, Off of another part of his website where he's Archiving his Music, you can find plenty of his Book stuff as well as his Photography. Additionally you can find plenty of my step mother Anita's stuff there as well ^_^

What a beautiful song it sounds like some think John Lennon would have wrote.. for his old friend Paul ! .
@gregoryyoung88239 ай бұрын
I was thinking that too. Maybe John's spirit was coming through Carl's songwriting, especially since it included the last words that John ever said to Paul. Coincidence?

Carl Perkins "The night before I was supposed to leave, I thought I might run short of words telling Paul how much I appreciated him having me down there, so I wrote down some words and put a little tune to them. I called it ‘My Old Friend’, and sang it to him the next morning. Then I had to stay another day, because he said, ‘This is one we have to record.’ Linda told me, ‘He doesn’t cry a lot, but you touched him with that song.’ I only meant the song to be from me to him, but it turned out that it sounds like John Lennon is talking to him."

Sorry Im just not a big fan of this composition. Sounds as if an amateur wrote it.

Carl Perkins was no amateur. He was iconic. That’s why Paul invited him.
