This is my first time doing a crochet project and I’m confused about the “ch1 sc ch1 sc ch1 sc2tog” - the only videos I can find online do a sc ch1 and then sc back into that same stitch....is that correct? I think I’m confused because your directions start with a ch1 but everything else I finds starts with a sc. Also, do I do a chain stitch into the same stitch after I sc2tog, or just go onto the next stitch? I hope these questions make sense!
@craftknot9353
@craftknot9353 4 жыл бұрын
For the first round you start with a ch1, after that you continue working in spiral and the ch1 (to start a row) is not needed. sc + ch1, sc + ch1 into next stitch, 2 sc worked together as 1sc + ch1 (decreasing 1 stitch) To decrease a stitch insert hook into the first stitch, yarn over and draw through the loop. Do not complete the stitch as normal, instead, insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw through the loop. There should now be three loops on your hook, yarn over and draw through all three loops. continue in next stitch ... I hope this is somehow helpful.

For the first round sc + ch1, sc + ch1 into next stitch, 2 sc worked together as 1sc + ch1 (decreasing 1 stitch), repeat all around. For round 2 - 8 you work sc + ch1 into each ch1 spaces of the previous round.

I thought people were making these from plastic grocery bags to save the environment. I’m sad to see people are buying more plastic to make these now. I’ll only use plastic bags given to me from people who refuse to use reusable bags. I’d be happy if I couldn’t make these anymore because people didn’t use plastic bags anymore.

@craftknot9353

This way you increase stitches, that is not what you want. just work sc+ch1 into the ch1 spaces of the previous round. sc+ch1 into ch1 space, sc+ch1 into next ch1 space, ... to keep the same amount of stitches every round.

@craftknot9353
@craftknot9353 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't have this bag anymore, but from the photo I'd say its 35 cm long and about 25-30 cm high. If you like it in a bigger size you can use a bigger crochet hook size with a different strength of yarn or just increase stitches and rows for the bottom and rounds for the height. Work the bottom the size you wish and continue the same way.

the 32 rows for the bottom are sc all across, ch 1 and turn. for the continue you work in spiral (not closed rounds).

All those plastic bags looked new!!! That's not the purpose of PLARN! The idea is to REUSE and avoided sending bag to the landfill!!!
@craftknot9353
@craftknot9353 5 жыл бұрын
you are right, that's the way everything started. which home wasn't stuffed with hundreds of plastic bags from any kind of store. but today you don't get this amount anymore (certainly not the same quality, most of them are self destructing and become dust in 3 month) and in my country you have to pay for every single plastic bag going out of the store anyway ... so ... why not buying different colored plastic bags (in many cases they turn out to be cheaper) and use them for the same purposes before crocheting them into shopping bags?
@ryuudrazyl4588

@CraftKnot Then why are you bothering to make something like this in the first place? If you're situation is as bad as you say, then you should be making reusable bags from cloth! Purchasing a bunch of bags just to make a video that gets lost in the thousands of others that, to be quite honest are far better and clearer, and then say it's better than reusing the plastic bags from the store, your video is a waste. Literally.

@@ryuudrazyl4588 what are you so mad for? the bag isnt being advertised to be made out of used bags anyway. nobody said buying bags and using them instead of reusable ones is better, it's just an alternative. nobody is FORCING you to buy new ones. use the tutorial with whatever you want. it is not that deep I promise you!!

I don't think you can dye plastic bags without the color rubbing off later on. When I work bags like that, in a colored pattern, I buy them in a store. You can find a very big variety of colors and sizes in trash bags. For this bag I worked with 45 lt (52x75cm) 10-bag packages and 55 lt (58x72cm) 20-bag packages

Wow, switched today on a basket 8mm to a 5mm on another and 2.5 whoa, nothing like changing extremes! lol The hook is ever so skinny and long kind of strange to hold onto. I don't really like handles, but might try making one for it. The lowest hook I've gone is 3.75. Thank you very much for your pattern! And your quick response. :-)
@craftknot9353

I know that feeling too well. I'm working always on different projects at the same time. Changing extreme can be very difficult. For me needle sizes under 5mm have to have a handle. It's much easier and way more relaxing to work with. Unfortunately I don't have the time to show new projects at the moment, but I will try to respont as soon as possible if you have a question.

What is the finished size and how many bags do we allow for the project? Did you cut the bags in half's. fourths, sixths, ??? I want to make some for pet pads and need to know how many to collect. I make grocery bags and need 50 for each one, but the pads will be thicker and the plarn will have to be cut in strips wider than 3/4"for sure.
@craftknot9353
@craftknot9353 6 жыл бұрын
The size of this matt is about 52cm x 38cm. The amount of bags is difficult to say, there are to many different sizes and qualities out in the market. If you buy them not more than one package of each color. For grocery bags I'm not sure, but 50 bags sounds about right. To cut the bags, I remove handle and bottom and cut them into 2cm/2,5cm/3cm wide stripes. Each bag cutted into one long thread. I like to work with double or triple thread for a better quality.

I'd say from everywhere, there is a very big variety out there. starting with the bags you get by shopping in any kind of store, you can also use packagings. stronger bags you can find in the street market (wherever they sell potatoes, melons, ... for example). and every grocery store offers a wide variety of trash bags (sizes, thicknesses and colors). I enjoy combining.
