The whole point of retro gaming is the nostalgia of using historical tech, also there's the challenge for clever programmers to scrape every last drop out of the original hardware and we've seen some incredible more modern games and demos. Upgrading to modern hardware in any way beyond just storage capacity and loading speed in my opinion completely destroys the whole point, it's not real Commodore 64 any more once you use a modern graphics accelerator and anything impressive you see using that is just cheating, but each to their own.
@CityXen20 күн бұрын
@@pjcnet that certainly is one point of view. Thanks for sharing that. Some people like to play with them and do weird interfaces and such, such as this card. We do not begrudge any of that, and you shouldn't either. After all, the end life of the machine was decades ago. Why hate on folks that just want to experiment with the cpld/fpga stuff? Endless possibilities really. Why do people modify old cars from years gone by? Why not?
@pjcnet20 күн бұрын
@@CityXen Old cars are a bit different, but personally I'd still rather have the original vehicle as it was, as I said however, each to their own.

@pjcnet cars are a bit different, but to the point, some folks like to mod older things with new tech. It's called retrofitting.

Have you seen the doom running through a raspberry pie for the c64 be nice if it could be combined with beam racer or 80 column 256 colours n super cpu!
@CityXen26 күн бұрын
Haven't seen that one yet. Some folks do love to port the Doom to all manner of strange mechanisms. The Beam Racer is pretty cool, it's a shame that there isn't much software for it other than the included demos. To that point, not many folks have one. So it's really more of a novelty than a practical piece of kit. It might be really cool to get this thing to work with GEOS somehow to have accelerated graphics. Not sure if GEOS has provisions for "graphic drivers" or not though. Probably not. I don't think the developers of the C64 or software for it were thinking or planning abstraction layers. It would be also cool if the new C64OS could somehow make use of the accelerated features somehow. The possibilities are numerous, nonetheless.

This should be the default video that plays for visitors to your channel, such a great CityXen crash course. And is our new simian friend played by a special guest or a CityXen stalwart? Some good acting chops there. And please understand that this is a critique made out of love, but I just have to say, I still can't get used to Clicky's new voice. His old voice had so much personality. The new AI voice just doesn't manage to do him justice. It's like we all loved Charles Martinet doing Mario's voice, and now in the movie it's just Chris Pratt just using his regular voice. Please understand, I'm not trying to be a complainer. It's only out of my love for Clicky and the gang that I'm weighing in, as a fan. What about a recreation of something like the voice Frank Welker did for Jinx in Space Camp? That may retain that quality in Clicky's original voice that was so endearing while still providing the clarity you're seeking from AI. Again, sorry to be a pain, but it's all out of fandom. Regardless, I'll always be a fan, but I felt strongly enough about it that I was compelled to share. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback. Our friend Gori, from The Curses of Dark Corner helped us with this. He's never been in our vids, this is the first time. He and his wife do a lot of live shows and work in other film/media too. Link to their instagram is in the description. As far as the voice stuff goes, I (Deadline), loved SAM voice as well. However, we just kept getting feedback many many times that it was too hard to understand. Even from our own folks, they were saying "it is time to change it up". I finally gave in to all that overwhelming feedback and we devised the plot to upgrade their voice modules. I loved doing the SAM because some of the inflections hilariously came out as not as intended, but they were so great I just went with it. Even now with the new voices that happens to some degree, and there have been times when I am making these that I just find myself laughing my ass off. (It's horrible for productivity btw). But yeah thanks so much @PacBilly for watching and commenting.

That velvet Elvis was a gift from a friend of mine who rescued from the trash! I could read something into it that my friends drive past trash and their first thoughts are of gifting it to me! In all seriousness though, the painting was in rough shape and the frame (carved wood ala the jungle room) simply couldn't be saved, luckily, I found someone who was able to handle the restoration and reframing - it took a bit to convince them I really wanted them to work on a velvet Elvis!

Thank you for the time you put into making your content. I own that same silver TV on the right as you. I have 13 Commodore CRT monitors and that one silver TV CRT. I have it because it will tune to its highest of channel 95. My Commodore MAX-04 has a NTSC VIC-II and put its RF signal out on Japanese channels 1 & 2. Robin in his MAX video shared with us that the Japanese NTSC channels 1 & 2 are the same as the NTSC channels 95 & 96 in N. America. This TV by going up to channel 95 has one of the channels that my MAX can work on so that I didn't need to open it up and do the composite video mod thus keeping it all OG. Here is my video from the day that I was able to use my MAX for the first time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpPPZIGoqrKqbMUsi=x9coSnAh3rcshKyS

VCFSE is a bit different than other VCF events because it is cohosted with the commercial Southern Fried Gaming Expo. We only have about 1/20th the footprint as VCFMW. It is a completely different experience, as there is more emphasis on the Arcade hall. The Arcade hall is about twice the size of what we had at VCFMW. The SFGE guy actually came to our local Atlanta Historical Computing Society meeting yesterday and Earl asked him if it was possible for us to get more room. He told us that it would be difficult, as the VCF room is shared with Indie Game Developer group. Cool stuff, nonetheless, and our guys mostly. They do come up with some cool exhibits down here.
