Consider teflon tape. It makes a better seal AND it helps removing the nozzle (or whatever attachment).

The O ring isn't missing. It's basically one big O ring. Try it with a different hose. If there is a defect on the hose end it won't seal correctly. I doubt there is anything wrong with the nozzle.

I've got 3 of these and love them mine doesn't leak at all...and it's super high pressure I twist the top of it and I can shoot stream small as needle to large as say my pinky I think maybe depends on how much water pressure you have coming out of your home faucet....but I really do love mine.
