• In 1990, the British duo DNA (record producers: NICK BATT and NEAL SLATEFORD) remixed "TOM'S DINER" and distributed it to clubs without the permission of the artist who wrote and performed it-SUZANNE VEGA-or her record label, A&M Records. When she heard the remix, she recommended the label get hold of it and officially release it rather than suing DNA for copyright infringement. • SUZANNE VEGA: "(A&M) asked me what I thought of it and I told them it was really kind of nice. So I said, 'Go ahead and release it.' I wasn't expecting it to be successful-I never thought it would be that popular. It just seemed very charming."
