Ironically every time the Yankees had a big farewell ('08 Stadium, '13 Mariano, '14 Jeter) they missed the playoffs and were out of the race when they had their farewell events. If they had been in the playoffs as they were accustomed to, or even in the playoff race at the time, it wouldn't have necessarily been definitive when their last appearances would be and the events would not have been as big as they ended up being (this whole game, Mariano's final walk off the mound, Jeter's walkoff hit).

While I can’t argue the original was legendary, it simply just ran its course. It was obsolete and falling apart. Steinbrenner wasn’t going to put anymore money in it. Hell, he wanted a new one as early as 1998. Not to mention it felt very crammed

@@chrisnalina1755 I did hear the renovation actually made it worse, but I felt all it did was put a band aid on a stadium that was already past its prime by that point. When the newer state of the art stadiums started coming out (not to mention that fallen piece of concrete incident in 1998) I feel that further pushed them into wanting a new stadium.

Hard to believe it's been nearly a decade and a half since the old cathedral hosted it's final game. I went to the third to last game played here in 2008, which was my final ever visit here. 1994 was when I started going to games as well. It still sucks that the true Yankee Stadium gone for good after all this time, even if that's progress though! I haven't even been to a Yankees home game since 2011 for that matter, which both literally and figuratively became so not worth it too!

@@irt3rdavenueel172 It was completely torn now in 1974 and a new stadium was built. I do not know why some people can not understand that. When Yogi was asked about playing in "This" stadium he replied, "I never played in this stadium" Saying it was "Renovated" would be like saying the current stadium was renovated from the original.

@@chrisnalina1755 No it wasn’t, I know what I’m saying, because I always viewed the video and it was under renovation my best friend Nic can confirm it was under renovations because him and I are diehard Yankees fans and every website you go on they’ll tell you it was under renovation because that it a true statement that it was being renovated because they needed more space and because it was in the same spot when it first opened on April 18th 1923 and to makeover in ‘74 they never torn down that stadium and had to rebuild, and plus you’ll actually be able to tell that they kept the original facade from the original design of the old stadium to put above the black bleachers in the old stadium after renovations there’s no way they could tear it down completely and rebuild it again from scratch because they needed a stadium in The Bronx in the 1976 season and the 1977 World Series season, it may look like it was being demolished but historians will tell you it was under renovations to make it a little bit bigger and plus they didn’t have the money to build a new stadium at the time so they just renovated it and then the Yankees were able to return to the old stadium that sat there for 85 years
@chrisnalina1755 Жыл бұрын
@@irt3rdavenueel172 If you take the time to look at film of them tearing it down you will realize it was NOT a renovation. Everything was replaced, everything. I was at the original Yankee Stadium and it had absolutely nothing to do with the one they built in 1974-1975. They built that stadium on the same grounds as the one from 1923 so that is what is the same meaning on the same land.

For them to pretend that this stadium is the historic Yankee Stadium that Babe Ruth played in is in my opinion despicable. By the way, I was in the old historic Yankee Stadium that Mantle, Ruth, etc. all played in and it was NOT this one.
