Absolutely amazing garden, the tree fern looks absolutely stunning. It's mad to think that you lost the garden on that bad winter. I watched the video and was absolutely devastated for you both, but the garden has come back bigger and stronger and looks fantastic with you both. Well done you two, plenty of inspiration for us fellow gardeners ❤

@@traceyrowlands1220 Thank you. We’ve got full sun predicted for the next three days so hopefully the annuals can catch up a bit. They’re very behind this year, especially the ricinus. Hope all is well in Wales

Take the rocks out of the bottom because of perching effect. The peat is very water retentive maybe cut it with third large perlite and third course sand.🙏🙏🙏

Figtrees love sharply draining soil ….that being said, they do enjoy “wet feet” but they seem to need inorganic things such as potassium silicate .

Yes that bamboo return was a bit of a surprise. We want to have an arid style border there but that will have to go on hold until next year now. I don’t think I’ll have any bamboo in the ground again. Pots only from now on!

The garden is looking great! We had extreme winds this year too. I had to give extra protection to my 6ft Chamaerops Humilis, having survived the 2022 winter (one of the heads died), this year as soon as the fronds started to appear they were blown dry and brown by the wind. Lost a small Chamaerops Vulcano due to the extremely high winds this year.

We’re quite lucky here in that the garden is not that exposed. Sorry to hear about your plant losses. We lost all of our chamaerops in the previous winter

Quite surprised you lost Colocasia Pink china , is your soil quite heavy and not free draining? After the that bad winter we had in 2022 i now make sure i do more cuttings especially on Salvias and have extra plants that are boarderline tender as backup in the greenhouse now
@uktropicals
@uktropicals 2 ай бұрын
You are correct. I’m sure it was all down to poor drainage and the wet weather.

@@uktropicals my venture into tropical gardening is in it’s first full year and it’s a steep learning curve. English cottage plants are easy to fit in anywhere but tropicals tend to need much more space so I’m already thinking of widening borders !

Looking fantastic😃Have you ever had a Salvia Amistad come back after winter? I love them but this is the 4th summer ive had to buy them in again
@uktropicals
@uktropicals 2 ай бұрын
Not yet! It came back but weak 2 years ago but this year absolutely nothing. I’m convinced it’s more about good drainage than temperature for some plants. The pink chinas really don’t like sitting in water. This year they went to mush. I think at the end of this year I’m going to lift as much as I can as buying replacements is an expensive hobby!
