In certain ways, the Arcam CDS50 is a great product. I have connected up my CDS50 and used it as a CD player and streamer, as well as a CD and streaming transport. When you use the onboard DAC on the CDS50, you get a pretty standard ES3038Q2M sound; I could barely tell any difference between the sound of the CDS50 and my Topping X3 Pro+. Where the CDS50 really shone, was when I was using the CDS50 as transport to my Roksan K3 integrated amplifier. That combination of sound was on a different level compared to my Cambridge Audio MXN10 and my Bluesound Node X (which I have disappointed in from day 1). The sound just had more body, and I couldn't believe the difference, double-checking that I hadn't done something wrong. Of course, what lets the Arcam CDS50 down is Arcams Musiclife app, which is buggy and frustrating to use. Generally, I use the Mconnect app instead, which does work much better, but you do get a long delay between songs (which is one of the reasons I bought the Cambridge Audio MXN10.

Arcam was one of my best audio gear for me, unfortunately, Harman acquired the brand and removed quality parts and toroidal transformers. Not cheap Arcam for me.

Easy to drive by a quality 50 watt amp to up to 90 dB levels at a meter plus transients? That's about the loudest I go in an under 400 sq ft room.

JBL and ARCAM Harman brands are superior luxury audio products. JBL the loudspeakers world leader in pro sound from prestigious festivals, concerts auditoriums and best recording studios (70 years of expérience and excellence) Arcam, incredible british brand with fabulous power amps and CD players. Why is it made in china ? The dream is dead. It's a very big stategic error of Harman. The world of musicians, music lovers don't understand.

I currently have a hegel h390 with revival audio atalante 5 but will the h390 play well with evoke 20. I once heard these evoke 20 speakers with naim nova and I liked them very much

I know an "acrobatic" recordings "James Walsh" but with some issue in the internal tracks b side In any case JBL doesnt performs below 45, the rationale in the design was to maximize efficiency at the expense of depth, which at the time anyway vinyl recordings were cut at 41.5hz.

Sounds great, better than some high prices high end systems, I`m a owner of some T&A Criterion TCD 210 S, before buying them, I`ve heard KEF, B&W, Dali, and some others, all in price range 5.000 € to 10.000 €. After hearing them with most diverse Musik, I`ve decided for the T & A. I`ve paid about 7.000 €, they sounds still great.

I hate commenting in a negative way, but it sounds like a woofer is blown everytime a bass note hits.. distortion of some sort at the very least, unless I am mistaken?

This might be the microphone. I have the same speakers and they are very capable to play base in various frequencies. And the base is indeed emphasized. I have no issues with distortion at all.

@ very long story, but HiFi dealer in Berlin confirmed it didn’t work at all. They sent it off to IAD (? IAG) in Germany and it eventually was returned with a note declaring it was not faulty! It actually displayed a single fault on Day 1 after returning, but has been fine since. Although yesterday it paused mid track, then resumed. Never again! Unfortunately.

The device costs €3000 and the controls look cheap and are obviously built in a wobbly manner as seen at 0:22
