I'm a big fan of Blackstone Fortress and created a lot of my own material for it. This includes a few new retainers using the retinue rules. One of the retainers is a Slaught named Mr. Book. I created my own rules for it and used an custom made "Worm-who-walks" model to represent it on the board. Very happy with the results and how much it added to the game, especially when it turned on the characters! 😱

GW changed the Hrud to look like the Kafers from GDW's 2300AD. They were like the Skaven in their early incarnation. Rogue Trader the original 40k gaming experience described them this way. Great Lore in that old Book ;)

On the tabletop, I would love to see Zoats in Kill Team. I have the Blackstone Fortress model and am itching to get greater use out of it. Maybe using a single Zoat as a wild card element, like in the old rules for Kill Team Zoats that were published in White Dwarf. Or, perhaps, having up to three Zoats accompanied by another appropriate Kill Team, like the rules for inquisitorial agents. Zoats with any Kill Team bar Space Marines, Custodes, Necrons, Legionaries, overtly Chaos teams (daemons etc) and Tyranid teams would all work. It seems a pity not to use such a wonderful model! And on saying that, let's see other lesser races make an appearance in Kill Team- Ssylth, Medusae, Ogryns, Ratlings etc. Or using non-standard teams such as Necron Canoptek constructs (scarabs, wraiths and spyders) or a Drukari Haemonculus with his/her/its bio-creations. Kill Team has already touched on these sort of teams in the past with the Rogue Trader Kill Team and the Beastmen Kill Team. Would love to see more of that, exploring corners of the 40k universe we have never seen or just briefly seen realised up to now.

I always imagined the Zoats to be refugees which are fleeing the Tyranid invasion. Some managed to gain control of Tyranid bioforms, especially those that are not controlled by synaptic creatures, due to the Zoat's telepathic abilities and by doing so escaped the Tyranid hordes. Many Zoats have been subsumed by the Tyranids, others escaped into the galaxy on biofleets such as Colossus while others still are spread across the galaxy. The very existence of the forerunner's ancient vessel seems to indicate that Zoats were active in the galaxy long before the arrival of the Hive Fleets. So, my scenario is this- the Zoats were a civilisation at the edge of the galaxy wo had advanced biotech. The Hive Fleets reached and consumed their planet but due to Zoat telepathic ability, many Zoats were subsumed rather than consumed by the Tyranids. They lived as a sort of parasitic race within the greater Tyranid organism, using their powers to "convince" the Tyranids that they were indead one of their synaptic creatures. Some Zoats took command of Tyranid bio-ships, like cuckoos taking over a nest, and used them to flee into the known galaxy. Others, such as the forerunner, had already escaped on Zoat made vessels. At any rate, the Zoats who were subsumed were eventually purged by the Tyranids once the evolution of the Hive became advanced enough to detect them. Those who fleed on Tyranid vessels were hunted down by the Imperium once they breached Imperial space, most notably the battle against "Hive Fleet" Colossus. There are scattered Zoats still active in the galaxy, such as the Archivist, but they are few and far between. The Zoats are largely a spent force now. To make real world parallels, I imagine the Zoats being like the various Germanic tribes, driven into the bulwark of the Roman Empire by the oncoming Huns (the Tyranids) as well as being a parasitic race that, due to a quirk of biology, managed to live within the Tyranid bio-organism until detected and eradicated, much like a bacteria or virus or other parasite living within a larger organism in the real world.

How about the Galg? The idea of a race having achieved Utopia only to have been destroyed by the Tau is cool.

i believe they might have been re cast as their own mysterious race now. using technology and coming from the ghoul stars, i believe they are their own standing entity now in the lore.

I find it sad that beastmen actuallu exist in 40k (as canon), are tolerated by imperium upto a point (looking at you rattlings and wulfen) but are otherwise shunned, and pushed towards chaos, or on worlds at the edges of the segmentariums
