As a kid, this was one of the first books to really grab my interest. My teacher found out I was reading it and since it wasn't a graded book she scolded me and wouldn't allow me to continue. It's bothered me since that I never got to finish but here we go.

I like the episode version as well and the Snake Monster Parents are awesome and unlike most Goosebumps parents they had an actual reason for not believing Lucy because they needed to know for sure she was right and I bet they only eat bad monsters who are villains. I bet Mr Mortman in the uncut version of the story that wasn't made would've had him eat both human and monster children but thankfully it wasn't made I do like that he eats bugs in the episode version and not turtles.

I just want to say thank you so much!! All of the audiobooks officially released were really nice, but they stopped being made after awhile and I was left scouring the internet for more, but all there were seemed to be low quality robotic audiobooks.. You are a fantastic narrator! You encapsulated the exact emotion of each of the characters so well. The meaning behind this book is so brilliant, and I think this version of the story is much more to my liking than “the boy who cried wolf” hehe!

You're so welcome! Yeah, I was the same in not finding many as it seems they had stopped being made at some point. Oh god, yeah those robotic ones are the worst! Aw wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I took what I thought they would each be like and made sure to stick to their characteristics / voice style throughout, as it helps the listener to follow whats happening. Yes, definitely, same for me too. This one nails the creepy, unsettling feeling. I still need to work on more audiobooks, as I have so many more I'd like to do, but it's a little difficult as they take a long time to make 😅 Keep an eye out for more in the future!

Hearing the UK version talk about "rubbers" in reference to what we in the US call erasers amuses me, as "rubbers," as specific objects, typically means condoms over here. If someone asked if they could borrow a rubber, my immediate response would be, "No, but you can have one. No need to return it." Anyway, thanks for the uploads. They help me sleep.

I'm a 34 year old truck driver. I got nostalgic about a year ago and decided I wanted to read all 62 original Goosebumps books from my childhood. Being that I'm working and busy at home it makes it hard to be able to sit down and read each one. I got through the first 7 books pretty quickly through the wonders of youtube, but had to postpone the marathon since I couldn't find the 8th book anywhere online. Very much appreciative of this upload. Hope you do all original 62!

Hi Rocky! Thank you so much for checking this out, I certainly shall be doing all the books, starting with the most requested ones on my list. I shall be putting the MP3 downloads up on Patreon too, if that sounds interesting to you too. The only one's that won't be available in MP3 form is the "Give Yourself Goosebumps" stories, for which I'll be only doing the one I've done due to them taking a lot more time. If the love is there, then maybe I'll do more of those down the line, but for now just sticking with the normal Goosebumps books. I'm so glad you're enjoying the audiobooks and that they really helped you on your audiobook journey! I was exactly the same with wanting to read all the books again from my childhood (Seems we are similar ages), which is why I started these with my favourite book "How I Learned To Fly". I hope you can join me on the adventures of the other books too! It seems I will be doing them out of order, but maybe after the requested books, then I shall do them in order. Thank you for listening, enjoying the content and indulging in your nostalgia!

Thank you so much ThrillShow! As I'm sure you're aware, this took a long time to create (including remembering which characters had which voices, haha!), so thank you so much for this and the wonderful feedback, it's great that people love the work put into a project like this. The Give Yourself Goosebumps books are fantastic, aren't they! I do feel that this kind of project has looked to most that I have created a very short audio story, seeing as it shows as "7 mins 25 secs", but hopefully most realise, as you have. I do hope to do more like this in the future, but for now will be sticking to the normal Goosebumps books and other things, due to how much time was put into this. But again, that's not to say I will never do another, but just for now. Thank you again for listening and commenting to let me know. It's very much appreciated ThrillShow!

@SnugTales
@SnugTales Жыл бұрын
I'm confused too... Sorry Abi, but it's not just this video, there are 66 other videos that make the audiobook, this one links to two at the end and they link to more? The choices are at the end of the video, then you move onto the next part. That's what I try to explain at the start, so apologies if it wasn't clear. Also, it should be the book cover, not the thumbnail, so maybe there is an error. It works fine this end though

Thank you so much Brian, no problem at all. I thought it might be good for you guys to have a little insight into the idea before it comes out. Mainly because from the outside it could look like a very short and simple video, whereas it's actually just the tip of the iceberg. Plus, it's lovely to be able to speak to you guys outside doing an audio story. Yeah! Same here, both the amazing idea that I could choose what happens and the wonderful cover was why I took up reading it when we were going on holiday. Such an amazing time for reading when I was younger and it seems it was the same for many others, like yourself Brian! Thank you for taking the time to listen to this and I really do hope you enjoy the audiobook. Take care!

Listening to the story is actually better than I remembered when I was a kid. First off, you have a great voice for this kind of thing and I look forward to more audiobooks from you. I love the tension and atmosphere that R.L. Stine builds not only in his description of the library, and the dark clouds hovering over the sun when Lucy's in the library watching Mr. Mortman change into a monster, but I also enjoy the questions that Lucy asks herself with her reaction to what she's seeing, doubting what she's seeing, and how to prove it all to her parents. While I like the big reveal in the end, I feel like it was a bit underwhelming because it swoops by so quick. All this tension and slow pacing that Stine magnificently builds all the way up to this "dinner" just to have it pass by so quickly makes the book a little uneven. And Lucy, at the beginning of the story, alludes to this "dinner" and we as readers look forward to Mr. Mortman at this dinner and how it will all come down. If hitting an exact word count was an issue, resulting in a fast-paced denouement, I think Stine should have cut Lucy's last trip to the library as the last one makes it a bit more repetitive than needed, even though repetition is expected in a "you got to believe me" plotline such as this. So instead of 4 trips to the library, 3 would have been sufficient. Even though I like the bit when she knocks over the card catalog and Mortman wildly picks it up (I wouldn't dream of ever taking this part out!), I think that scene could have moved over to her 3rd trip to the library when she brought her camera. Anyways, a solid Goosebumps entry, though not perfect, but a memorable book nevertheless. Again, I look forward to more audiobooks! I also listened to The House of No Return and Teacher's Pet. I enjoyed them! I'd recommend "An Old Story" from the Still More Tales To Give You Goosebumps short story collection.
@SnugTales

Thank you so much, Brian! I think it helps that I was a huge fan of the books growing up and had a fairly large selection of them. I never had any audiobooks of them, but heard some of them and wasn't too interested with the way they were done. They weren't bad, but seemed slightly "Disney", if that makes sense. Then again, it's better to have something rather than nothing, like that some of the books don't have any audio versions done at all. Yes! I very much enjoy R.L. Stine's descriptions of places, not overcomplicated but it really sets the scene. Also, you have these big twists at the end that you just don't expect. Much like this ending, which isn't really expected! Yeah, with the many trips to the library, it's actually very interesting that the TV series cut them down to only a few times as it really ate into the run time. To me, it suits the story better and they didn't need to bulk it out as much. I remember when reading the book for this audio recording, it seemed like the book was rounding off and then Lucy was back on over to the library again. It really threw me. Yes, the card rack is a great addition that most people wouldn't think about adding in! I think that one is definitely something that could have been added into the previous trip to the library. Ah yes, reading the rest of what you said, you say the same! If you've not checked out the TV version, you should take a look if you have time as they change the number of library trips and change the oddest thing which was the turtles to tarantulas! (I think they remove the flies too) 😳😱 Thank you so much for checking out my other works! You may also like my original tale called "The Old House", which was my first own written part of what I want to try to make into a longer story. I have yet to write other parts though, but do have many ideas (which may be apparent with that first instalment). Thank you for the recommendation! I have added it to the list of ones for me to produce as an audiobook and look forward to reading it! I hope you're well and have a wonderful day!

@@SnugTales I did watch the TV version. I watched it when it aired for the very first time back in 1995 and I loved it ever since! The limited special effects with Mr. Mortman's monster transformation have aged really well, I think, and it's an episode I watch every now and then -- it's that good! Yes, they did remove the flies, but we did get some crickets ;P I can see why they changed the turtles to a tarantula, but it's still a good change and it's still disgusting and disturbing no matter how you slice it! We didn't get the card catalog scene, but hey, we can't get everything in a short 22-minute episode, can we? Overall, I think it was a solid GB episode. It could have been worse; luckily, it wasn't. I have a question concerning the book. I hear many GB fans say that Lucy and her family were the villains and that Mr. Mortman was the victim they feel sorry for, but what do you think about that? In the book, when Lucy makes her last trip to the library and Mortman locks the door and chases her throughout the library, it makes Mortman look more like the villain, and in light of the ending, what Lucy's parents did makes them look heroic to some degree. I say to "some degree" because they didn't know that Mortman was a physical threat to their daughter, but by getting rid of him, not only is the Dark family the only monster in town but the threat is gone. I will definitely check out "The Old House"; I can't wait to listen to that.
