Hi Christina! I really enjoy your videos! How long did it take for you to get your documents back from the Dominican ministry? I’m currently in the process of moving to the DR since I got a teaching job there, and I’m a first year teacher so a lot of weight on my shoulders. 😭

I respect you had a bad experience. Bug on the face, gross! My experience with AirBNB in Dominican Republic is excellent. For your viewers, check out reviews, you will find good AirBNBs. If anything, I am the guest from hell. Haha. God knows, we all have bad experiences with AirBNB, regular hotels, anyplace you can stay. Good and bad. Overall my experience with AirBNB is excellent.

I can totally relate to what you're saying. During my visit to the Dominican Republic, I also encountered catcalling and some uncomfortable stares, especially at the airport. I remember booking an Uber, and my limited Spanish made it challenging to sort things out when the driver didn't show up. Thankfully, a security guard came to my aid. I noticed the bluntness in some people's reactions too. I used to say 'hola' to break the ice, but I often got strange looks. However, I did have a few friendly interactions with people who smiled back or said hi. It's a mixed bag, but like you, I've learned to focus on enjoying my visit and not letting those encounters affect my experience. It's all about embracing the positive moments and not letting the negative ones overshadow the beauty of the place and the people you meet. 🙂

I did a missions trip in the DR. It ended up being a very toxic environment, the leaders of the organization were eventually kicked out. My 2 cents concerning missions is that people should try it in a part time capacity if possible. Always be able to leave the campus on the weekends and do something fun. Or do it for a week or 2 then leave. Missions work isn't all smiles, sunshine and Jesus. Some people are dealing with drug issues, severe emotional and psychological issues and culture shock, on top of having toxic leaders. Some people don't even want to be there and are only there because their parents sent them to the campus. Sometimes it isn't best to jump in the deep end with missions. It might be best to take it slow and only get ankle deep.

I have a question lets say I want to take the TEFL course but dont nessassarly want to go back to school & get a 4 year BA degree. Can I find a job teaching English in the DR or teach online but with the TEFL only???... And yes I currently only have a AS degree.
@Stina.marie__
@Stina.marie__ Жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely! Where I taught didn't require TEFL it was just a bonus. They did require a bachelors but I am sure there are plenty of schools that would hire with an AS and a TESL certification.
@raymatt2927
@raymatt2927 Жыл бұрын
@@Stina.marie__ ok i was curious because some countries prefer you to have both certificate , bachelor degree and experience.. For example Thailand, south Korea, Japan and I believe Dubai... But south America countries, central America & certain Europe countries you Don t need a degree or experience. Just a TEFL only
