When I heard that instrument, i thought it sounded like some sort of a wind instrument but i was surprised that they had their own version of a viola/violin

The title of this piece can be translated as “Reflection of the moon in the twin springs.” It was composed by a blind street performer around World War II. We can feel the musician’s sorrow, tender feelings of longing and loneliness as well as triumph. It’s from the heart and soul of a beautiful human being once lived and entertained thousands of people with his Erhu.

The composer ever had 200+ masterpieces but only this one had been recorded. The other were lost since he died in 1950s it’s a loss of human kind.

@RowdyClouds

Erhu can be traced back roughly 1400 years not 4000. Also all the "chinese tones" can be played on any western instrument. Chinese music is often pentatonic scales which can be played on any diatonic or chromatic instrument. Youre probably thinking of indian scales and microtones.
@Bangy

@@RowdyClouds Likewise all western tones can be played on Chinese instruments.

@@Bangy Most of them yes. Only exception would be instruments like the dizi and guzheng which are made for a pentatonic scale unless you had one custom made to a western scale. Those are the only two I can think of

James Tang Thanx Mr Tang, ur message is a little to late cos in the last 2 mnts I have studied chinese culture and their music and I think that I have listened to so much erhu music that I planning to buy one. So dont judge pls Mr Tang, I even have a collection of Erhu songs, my favorite is from Guo Gan and I am playing it for my friends in Africa. Moon Reflected on Erquan Pond is my ringtone, I am now a master in Erhu history.
