Lived at Ft Davis, 70'-71'- Freshman at CHS. Fond memories of JrROTC, swimming in the French Canal, sneaking to Colon, lol. The old Spanish Fort San Lorenzo, and riding my sisters' horses. I figured it was hell then, but a taste of heaven now. A world of its own, and I made gloriously good friends. A movie was 25 cents! Life is strange and wonderful on "The Atlantic Side". ; ) All the best to those who know.

I was at Ft Davis from 71-73 assigned to AAIC but worked my DMOS at the pool as pool manager and lifeguard. Davis and the Zone were heaven. Nothing like heading over to the Gatun Locks...just watching the ships sail through...or heading into Colon on a Sat night to play the slots, grab a meat stick from the guys with their hibachis (never really knew what kind of meat it was...), and stay clear of the Guardia Nationale. My room mate, Bill Dyblie, was a chaplain's asst...in the morning he'd jump in his jeep, pick me up at the pool, and head to the snack bar by the infantry commons. Then we'd head back to the pool and have coffee and donuts. What a life! And what memories....Mike O

My grandfather supervised the building of the stairway down from the Administration Building to the Prado! I lived on the Far Fan Radio Station from 1947-1950 - Very young so don’t remember much. However, I had family all over, including on the Prado. My grandfather brought his big family down to live there in about 1917. He had come down in 1914 to do finish carpentry in the Admin. Bldg. He was there at the opening of the canal. I have the Commemorative coin he received. He liked it so much, brought the family. Thank you so much for this great video!

I have no evidence, but I suspect life is harder for the locals after the bases all closed. The media will probably portray a different story, I’m sure. I was there at Kobe/Howard in 85-88.

I grew up there born in 66 at Cocosolo hospital. My parents met and married there because dads brother was a police officer there for years so my dad joined him after the navy. He became a stevedore and over time was in charge of 2k people if I recall? My mom grew up there because her father was a building inspector there from way back. We left in 75-76 so even though I was younger, I remember most all of this and of course our home was filled with things from Panama, South America and great things off of ships. My mom showed Cairn terriers and won best in show at international dog show. My parents married in Colombia and we got to travel down to Chile on a 30 day cruise that stopped there in every countries port. This brought back so much joy and sadness and I wish nothing would have ever changed. We are the Scott family - Jimmie and Maryann- mom was very social so they knew a lot of people. My big sister has kept us in touch with all her friends from down there. Cocobolo street - my dad made huge Disney Xmas wooden characters and lit them with floodlights every year - a lot of people remember that. My parents passed away in 2007 & 09 and nothing has been the same. Thank you for the video. My dad was an avid photographer and had cases and boxes of slides that somehow got left . In fact I don’t have any photos from our lives. I lived in miami for 15 years and that was the closest I could get to home.

I always find myself coming back to these videos of ft.sherman, We stayed right where you stopped 2nd to the last house 88 to 94 our neighbors were the Slaughters, We we're the Ramos House Juan Ramos Sr. Was my father, I had an amazing childhood here great friends, Great Community, Even Upper Sherman was fun to visit, I remember every Sunday the hordes of blue crabs that would come out every Sunday Night I still can't wrap my head why did they abandon such a wonderful place ,it made me sad when we had to move knowing I'll never see my friends again, I know it will take millions to rebuild this but by the grace of God if I ever become a millionaire I will rebuild amazing place, This wasn't just a base for us this was home 😔
