Hi Sam, one issue I'm having is that I record with a Panasonic camcorder but record sound independently with a Zoom H1N. I get a lot of audio drift when matching the two. I have tried syncing, making a multi cam clip with original camcorder audio and the H1N audio to try and sync but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions to either overcome this or get quality sound when using my camcorder for interviews (from a distance where cables may not be my option)?

I think I might know your issue. Do you know both the frame rate of your clip and the sample rate of your recording? To avoid audio drift, you will want your sample rate to be closely divisible by your frame rate. So for example, if you shoot at 24fps, you will want to set your external recorder to a sample rate of 48, or as close to it as you can get. Assuming that is the case, you can mostly fix audio already recorded in the incorrect sample rate by first perfectly aligning them at the beginning clip, then going to the end of the clip and either slowing down/speeding up the audio so that it matches the length of the video. A rate stretch over a long period of time should not be that noticeable. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but hopefully that helps!

Great vid ! How do you apply the limiter on more than one clip ?
@Sol-In-Seoul
@Sol-In-Seoul 5 ай бұрын
FCP is completely stupid, because if you now automate your volume curve on the clip, it does this POST limiter instead of PRE limiter (which any normal person would want).

Sam, do you have any other places online where you are producing content? Even if it is for clients. I just want to check out your work. I have a feeling you are doing great stuff. Pretty please.

You know... this is why I don't think I will ever stop going back to basics. After a long time I found myself just feeling good about the audio levels of my content again and this video (which I am sure I saw a couple of years ago also) brought me back to the basics. We adopt bad practices without noticing sometimes. Some people think only big channels can help, but this clearly shows we are all in this together. Thank you Sam. I don't know why you don't have more content. This was and still is great.

Hey thank you for watching! It’s been a while since I made this, but I believe I just exported the sound from each stage of the tutorial and synced it up whenever I played it. Could be wrong, but I believe OBS is now capable of capturing Mac desktop audio. Not sure though tbh

You, sir, are a life saver! Last night, I was conducting a video deposition over Zoom and unfortunately the doctor’s audio was lower than the attorneys. Since this is going to trial in 5 days, I was having a small panic attack until I tried your method which has worked a charm. Thank you so much!

It seems that with 1 camera or multiple cameras, impeccable timing wins the day. Of course 1 camera is easier on the budget rentals, but rapid-fire dialogue or repartee shot live with multiple cameras to a live mix on the fly or livestream with ISOs should be easier to get to a final product with less editing time. Both have merits to stay in budget.

This is a great tutorial. Still seeing FCPX videos where the audio in the actual video is not that great... this is 3 years old but still much better than all the other recommendations and plugins

I'm totally confused. My FCP project audio runs hotter than suggested here (high green, but not yellow or red), yet when I do an output and make an .mp4 the audio seems too quiet. And what is strange is when I upload the .mp4 to KZbin, my video plays quieter than other videos, so I'm worried that my audience will have to raise the volume to a high level just to hear the audio. This whole output audio process is maddening because I never know what is a good level for my videos, and how to output them correctly so the audio is normal.

Hi! As far as I know the recommended db for music is around -18 but I this limiter won't allow me to lower the volume below -10db. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot

Quick note here : If you follow his method for youtube video, your video will be too quiet. Actually if I right click your video and check stats for nerds, we see that you video is -5.1db under. You should aim at -1.5 output level maximum. More than that is not necessery (for youtube).

Thank you! Totally forgot to mention this, but make sure you record your audio externally and sync it, or at least find a way to keep the mic close to you for all takes. If the audio comes from The camera, it will sound far away when you move the camera. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
