Is it the largest quick adjusting vise from record?

Great vid. Are all the jaws fixed using machine screws? I have just inherited one, the jaws are so worn I cannot see any slot for a screwdriver. If threaded, do you know what thread they are? THanks

Seized? Doesn’t look seized in the video. But thumbs up for giving it a nicer colour. And for not polishing the bare metal bits.

I have 2 RECORD VISES to restore. A number 3 and a number 6. I just yesterday removed all the paint off the number 3 that I'm working on. It took me three days to take off all that paint. The original Blue was underneath and someone painted Green over that. All the rust and grunge is gone and it looks like a silver vise. I bought new jaws and screw assembly for these vises. Later this week I will spray paint the number 3 and I'm thinking of coating it with Spar Varnish. The color I'm considering to paint it is Ocean Blue. It's a little lighter and brighter color than the original. I'll do the same with the number 6. They are both in excellent condition. And will look amazing when completed. I'm going to mount them on a new tool cabinet I built. One at each end.

Does your cell phone camera not have "landscape" mode? Good looking restoration of the vise, wouldn't mind having a vise with "quick-release"...looks handy!

Quick question. I’m painting some metal parts on my bike and i just cant Seem to make it harden all the way. Even after 2 days i Can stil Press a nail into to paint

I always get the same with hammerite, would also like to know. I've been told I need to stir the paint more.
@rhestoration4371Күн бұрын
Give it a really good stir and don’t slap it on! Apply thin coats, may take 2-3 coats depending on colour. Make sure it’s fully dry between coats 😊

Just saw your No. 34 restoration. Good Job and thanks for sharing. I have a No. 36 (same but larger jaws) but mine has been really abused. The main screw flange (located near front of main screw and touches front face of moveable jaw and is captive between moveable jaw and front bracket) has been welded and then butchered with an angle grinder. Not even close to round. I would like to repair this but need the correct dimensions: O.D. of Flange; Thickness of flange). Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Cheers John

Sure wish some more of these would have made it over the pond to the states. Ive seen a few at auction but never can match the big spenders for them. Same goes for some of the old Soviet agricultural bench vises. Major drool factor.

We couldn’t find much in terms of the history of this vice. There didn’t appear to be any makers or manufacturers markings or number. Was still a nice little vice to work on. Thanks for watching 😊

I just bought a No34 vice (not quick release) and branded Record Steel not Record. I got it and a Record No5 as a pair for 30 quid from a farm auction and the 34 is a belter. I think I’m going to paint it green like yours because it looks bloody fabulous. Cheers for sharing 👍🏻

This is convenient, I just picked up a number 34 for £20. Essentially the same vice with 5 and a quarter inch jaws and a smaller anvil.

Can you tell me how you re-attached the part at 6.15? When you removed it originally the spring had been removed.

Sorry, looking back at the video, it’s seems the footage got cut short. Anyway, I flip the vice over and slide the dovetail back in from the bottom, then pop the pin in so it doesn’t slide back out 👍🏼
