“Not been amped before”? Many times these instrument level inputs are tracked in parallel with a live amp (so that, at a minimum, the performer gets to hear themselves playing through amp/fx while tracking). The DI is then edited, etc..and RE-amped. Kind of a strange comment to index on. Love ya anyway Fab!

2012-2014 is when Atmos first materialized. I am not a recording engineer but a consumer. (With REW and a UMIK-1) to calibrate we also use wired headphones, pop them in and out to calibrate phantom imaging. I currently have a 7.1.4. To faithfully recreate what you are doing with speakers 7.1.6(.6) or 9.1.6(6) what is the last six you may ask? As it’s presented as a box, the top corners and top surround and top wides are not represented. let’s talk about it in stereo and forget the center for a moment. the side walls have three to four base level speakers on each side (ear level) 6-8 total. The same for the top speakers, None of the overhead speakers along the edge in the box are represented to close the box. KZbinr, Technodad plays with Atmos and has made a Spatial Audio DVD test disc. When he says top right front speaker in a 7.1.4 setup. It’s not in the corner of the room space, it’s overhead right speaker of Atmos. Trust me there is a fanbase with amazing encoding systems and for what you are doing as engineers. more people are converting garages to $60k+ home theaters. Now, my concern is trying to recreate this faithfully with small room acoustics living room. Imagine your studio, with absorption and diffusion panels in my living room. So, please make the content and we will do our best to recreate it. We will talk about what the best experiences are. Also a recording of the rendering may be something to sell as to see what is happening is cool. We want to faithfully want to recreate your vision.

How loud db wise do mix on headphones.? I find that too long on loud headphones over 80 db gives me ear fatigue for days

I love the sound of verb on a total mix. I personally only paralleled the mixbus to a reverb

👀 The reconstruction of the history of some of the great albums covered in this episode definitely proves out some old sayings, like if 2 heads are better than 1, then 3 heads are better than 2, and 4 heads are better than 3. 🧠🧠🧠🧠

Looking forward to meeting you in person maybe at AES! My friend, Francois Arbour met you at the last AES in NYC. He as 7.1.4 room with Neumann speakers. I’m actually going to his room today to listen to rocket man and stuff he mixed. Again thank you to all the 5 of you!

More content like this, please! Thank you Fab and Puremix, as well as the artists and everyone else involved in making the content.

I have a few follow up questions. 1. How important is the listening room/speakers before you start getting paid clients? 2. Do you need to learn a certain level of skill before you start taking clients? 3. How old is too old to start down the path of mastering engineer? Thanks for an amazing video!

I love his approach and as a puremix subscriber, I've seen the whole tutorial several times now. As I get more experienced with mixing and mastering, I'm starting to realize that, in this particular vocal "seasoning", he was using compressors as saturators in a time when digital saturators didn't exist. That was a way of getting saturation out of tubes and transistors. It has way less to do with compression itself. Does anybody feel that way too? Just to be clear, he's amazing, I've learned a lot from him. No criticism here.

My thing is even with all that compression and the snare slamming you can’t hear the ghost notes on the snare in the mix. It’s crazy how it get buried under guitars.

This studio is like a cool functional museum. Some big name artists like to record to 24 track tape machines - Slash comes to mind. I love the concept of making music in an old school way like we used to do back in the day (though I could only afford 16 track studios back then!) The band has to have their music really together. It'd be a really fun experience with a great band. Amazing collection of cool gear.

Nice ! After 10+ years with the DT770 I tried the 7506 (it took a while to get used to it) but noticed my mixes translated way better, so I switched to it for good. The Beyer is definitely more analytic and just sounds better, but theres is something about the 7506 that gets the job done...
