My brother rode this line from Union station to Jacksonville Ill, to attend MacMurray college. That was in 1963. It was then the GM&O.

For safety and security reasons, photography or videography on Metra property is only permitted in areas that are clearly open to public use. Areas that are accessible only to Metra employees, including but not limited to, the right-of way and rail yards, are highly restricted areas and are not accessible for photography or videography by the general public. Metra will prosecute trespassers to the fullest extent of the law. Via metra website

Back when we lived in South Bend, that airport was known as the St. Joseph County Airport. Only turboprop planes could land; the runway was too short for jets.

When did the line get truncated from ending downtown South Bend, at the river at it's own yard, to Bendix Airport, or South Bend Airport??

July 1970. I still remember when they came all the way into downtown South Bend. At first the South Bend terminus was relocated to where the Amtrak station is now.

I love the route. Sadly, there was a man playing his music without headphones on. When I used to volunteer at the airport, they stated that if you spot anything suspicious to let Metro security know. But just so you are safe, wait until the suspect is off the train or you get off and far away from the system so that way, you can't be spotted by the suspect. The fellow playing the radio could be friends with a man that has a gun. At 7:27, we see the shops where these train cars are kept and it's where the train cars are fixed if there is a defect onboard. At 14:04 is the Forest Park station and that is where the Red Line and Blue line spit up. I went on a Transit Oriented Development tour with Citizens for Modern Transit. As I hear, there are long range plans for more Transit Oriented Development. You see some signs of TOD shortly after when the line pulls out of the Clayton Station. You have The Boulevard at the Galleria station, and you have some more TOD near the Brentwood I-64 stop. Just recently more of it popped up in Maplewood at Sunnen.
