While I was on exchange with the Australian Navy at Nowra in 2003, I managed to get a few flights in an RAAF Caribou while it was there on detachment from Townsville. I was in the Royal Navy (FAA) at the time. I absolutely loved it.

Rare footage there. Great that we have KZbin to share these events with those who lived or visited. Would anyone confirm whether Air Nuigini flew the Airbus A310 into Aropa in the late 1980s?
@roustus66 Жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure but I doubt the A310 could land at Aropa as it's too big, plus my understanding is that (in the mid 1980s anyway) the airstrip was not ICAO compliant because of the hill not far off one end of the runway & the F28s/F27s/DHC-7s had an exemption to do a modified approach/departure to clear the hill. (Same as the old Rabaul airport which had a volcano off one end.)

Brings back great memories, good to see Bougair islander, Metroliner ( TALAIR, SOLAIR ? ) & The Pocket Rocket. I think the Pie Van had seen better days.

I've recently formed an obsession for these aircraft. I've bought a 1.144 size model, readily available. But recently managed to secure a 1.72 version with scale cockpit, rear planes and detailed engines. Such a treat!

First arrived at Pt. Moresby on a Lockheed Electra (1966). Pt. Moresby was a nice quiet place then. Now classified as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Due in no small part to corruption and an ineffectual police force.

Great memories, I was there in the early 80s. I flew in the 707 a lot to Singapore and Hong Kong. Plus came in on a Cathay Pacific 747 from Hong Kong too! Port Moresby was such a great cut then. The government has ruined that country.
