This song is like that feeling you sometimes get when asleep, and know you're about to wake up from a wonderful dream. Half-lucid, you realise everything that's happened will soon be nothing more than a hazy a memory, a wistful nostalgic feeling for something incredible that will never come again. The loss sets in slowly as the new day begins, and all you're left with is the vague remembrance of something beautiful. And that is in my opinion what Sonic CD is, a vivid, fast, fantastic, fleeting journey into the very core of what Naoto Oshima believed this series to truly mean. The end of a complete run, after every zone, every robot generator destroyed, every good future secured, it feels like the final moments of a once in a lifetime experience, the tail-end of a journey beyond words that you'll never forget. That shot of the stars falling from Little Planet around Sonic in the Good Ending as this very track plays made me cry a little when I was 11, and I wasn't sure why for years; over a decade on, as a fully grown man, I understand why Games ARE art, and projects like Sonic CD are proof of that. And to anyone reading this, never forget: You're Too Cool.
