I’ll never understand how people can consider five days before leaving is “being a late packer” 😂. What the hell are y’all packing so freaking early? Don’t y’all have to wear some of those clothes? Use some of your electronics? Use your toiletries? I’ve never understood how you could start packing more than three days before. A list? Absolutely. But physically packing Three weeks before seems extra. It takes like two hours to take everything on your list and pack it away for camp.

Hi, I have A question about the rooms. Where are you sleeping on that camp, Do you have A own room or are you in A room with other people?
@emilypamio81482 жыл бұрын
hey! It depends on your camp and your role, in most cases you'll be in a cabin with your co-counselors and campers. If you have a higher-up role/support staff role at camp you'll be in a cabin with other management/support staff

Hey Angela, yay I'm so excited for you. Being at gymnastics is great as you get the chance to meet and work with all the campers and a wider range of counselors who'll you'll become friends with. Cons I'd say it gets super hot in the gym for like 5 hours a day so always take a waterbottle and if you can, one of those portable handheld fans. But overall it's quite chill, I'm pretty sure the head of gymnastics has changed since I was there so hopefully you'll have great coworkers too! I hope you have a great summer, let me know how you go :)

yeah it is definitely camp specific. I'm able to bring along a suitcase and a duffle to my camp. Some people take backpacks and some even bring 2 suitcases and then all the suitcases and bags are stored away in a safe space for the summer or you can choose to keep them under your bed.

What's the average age of camp counselors? What do you think is the best age to go?
@emilypamio81482 жыл бұрын
It depends on the camp and they generally hire based on there major age groups for counselors. The two camps that I’ve been to have been avg 18-28 and I’d say that’s the majority of camps. Girl/Boy scout camps are usually on the 18-21 side. However, age doesn’t matter at camps, I have friends 18 and 30 and we all get along equally ☺️

Hi, I wanted to apply for 2021, but i have to say after reading the programm agreement, i got quite scared 😂 When they mention that with a J-1 Visa we have to do a cultural activity once every week and then report on it, i wanted to know if you did do that? because no one really mentions it in their videos, so i'm kinda confused on what it is about!
@emilypamio81483 жыл бұрын
hey, this is a formality and no need to stress over it. Cultural activities include simply being at camp overseas, eating US food, campfires, swimming in the lake, your camp's 4th of July celebrations, camp traditions and going to Walmart. Your camp will give you opportunities and reminders to fill out the form on your agencies website (e.g. CCUSA) every 30 days while you're at camp, usually 1 month in and then at the end of your time at camp :)

@@emilypamio8148 ohh okay that makes more sense, thank you so much for taking the time to reply! It’s kind of like a forced pick because of the 4 different types request. Did you feel like this too? what were your 4 picks ? and should i mention it at some point, or not say anything at all ? 😬
@emilypamio81483 жыл бұрын
@@evatbn i picked traditional, specialty, girl scout of religious camps. Religious camps doesn't mean that you'll be placed at bible camps, its most likely quite the opposite, as most traditional style camps have a religios affiliation. e.g. Most camps on the east coast of the US have campers from progressive Jewish families in NY, Long Island, Connecticut etc. Once you've selected religious, you can just write in a small paragraph that you're not comfortable at a strict religious camp and prefer not to be teaching religion and you'll be sweet! Hi! This is first video of yours I'm watching and I'm sorry to bother you if you have already answered some of these questions on your other videos, because I have a lot of questions haha. On all the summer camp related videos I've seen there has only been camp counselors from the US, Australia, NZ or UK. Has there been non-native English speakers as camp counselors at your camps, do you feel like they fit in as well as the others? How much free time did you have at the camp? Did you have only one activity you "hosted" the whole time, or did you have different duties? How much experience of that activity you had before hand? And after your first camp, did you ever feel unsafe travelling in the States alone as a young female? Was it your first time traveling around the US, or had you done it before with your family?
@emilypamio81483 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure! The camp that hires you will fit you well so you'll have people who speak english and those speaking other languages, its really cool! All camps are different but you'll usually get 1 period off per day and then nights off + 1 full day a week off camp. I feel safe in the US, just research the areas you're visiting, stay in safe areas and keep your street smarts, just like travelling to any country. I worked as gymnastics staff but I also do heaps of other jobs bc we live with the campers too :) hope this helps
