I can’t believe it’s over ten years now since I first saw your blog while you were building this, what are your thoughts on these new engines coming out of China like the Chuang Qi V12? I don’t think it has the build quality of your work but still quite tidy.
@Keith5700Ай бұрын
Well, you summed it up pretty well in your last sentence. From what I’ve seen of the V12 then, if I couldn’t do what I do, then I’d probably have already bought one. Presume you’ve seen my V10?

What are you using for a clutch to disengage the engine from the drive? I need to make me a very small version of a clutch for a .049 engine in a car. Then I ALSO need to come up with a manual selection 3 speed gear box for it.
@Keith5700Ай бұрын
I’ve got a hydraulic triple plate clutch and air shifted 3 speed manual box. But I wouldn’t suggest you do that for your engine. I would go with an adjustable centrifugal clutch and have a look what other people use for small engine gearboxes. If you want to get complicated then make a 3 speed spur gear box with a brake shoe type drive in each of the 3 gears. Then you could just use one servo to activate the brake shoes in each gear independently, to select the gear which drives.
@rajgill7576Ай бұрын
Use an hpi savage 3 speed box. Not selectable, but 3 spd centrifugal
@davelowetsАй бұрын
@@rajgill7576 WAY too big for a .049 engine....
@davelowetsАй бұрын
@@Keith5700 Thanks... Yes, I am thinking that a centrifugal clutch would be the way to go with such a small engine. There are plenty of solutions out there that would work with a little work. I am thinking of coming up with a trans using spur gears, one-way bearings, and either a disk or a band apply for gear selection. The low torque of the tiny engine really limits how to go about these things... 🥴

Would using an actual ECU be possible? I feel like that could help a lot with running the whole car as well as making it much simpler to manage the motor and associated parts. Not sure if there are any small or light enough to reasonably consider for a project like this but it'd be worth looking at at least.
