I think as long as Ridley is there only to add name brand recognition and give the project validity we're fine... If he's making choices on script notes then we're fucked... Hopefully the director (whos name I wont attempt to spell) will do the same grand job he did with Arrival, Prisoners and Sicarro

Thanks bluworm it certainly seems that way doesn't it... but I don't know any franchise that has hit 9+ films and maintained quality of its initial installments. I think this proves Ridley Scott's only as good as the script in front of him.

Didn't it make a mahoosive record-breaking amount of money in China? I assumed that meant sequels would be guaranteed (though they still seem in doubt according to latest from Duncan Jones)

Yeah it was big in China, whether that means sequels is doubtful really. Hollywood doesn't like playing to a single territory. Sure China is a big territory, but thats an all eggs in one basket situation. Thats why Dredd isn't getting a sequel when it did (relatively speaking) very well in Europe and nowhere else.
