I would say why fursuits are popular, at least from my experience: Is because it helps alleviate social anxiety by letting themselves express what they feel a lot easier without people seeing their "face" which is why many furries do have fursuits, its also a reason why you will find people in fursuits generally show a lot of self confidence while wearing them. Personally for me, my fursona is an portrayal of my personality, and what I feel like as a person. There is of course a lot of sexuality and weird people in every community, this is no different to the furry community, although I generally find it is a very inclusive space. I just don't want to financially support someone with genuinely harmful & outdated views. But if I rent a Harry Potter movie from the library she doesn't make any money so I think it's fine. Talking about liking Harry Potter doesn't give her power, so I think it's okay. But that's just my opinion

Also, your example about baldness doesn't really work in this instance because most bald people aren't scared they're going to get murdered or attacked simply for being bald. But trans people do get murdered and attacked for being trans. So JK Rowling spreading transphobia is genuinely putting lives at risk.

Talking about Harry Potter technically reminds people of the series similar to ads/marketing. So you might get peopleto watch or read it again, supporting JK. Also "non-obvious trans women"/women have a similar problem and have difficulties going out at night or even day in some areas. So whats trans related and whats not? Also many people start to hate lgbt/trans in the context of the oblivious things extremists say in Tiktoks or do in public or teach literal children. Where is the line between sensible/good and dumb/really stupid, everybody decides for themselves. If you want to make the world a better place then the only way is to get power, not buying a movie/book as one of the many millions people who did, aint gonna make a difference unless you reach masses and then only a small difference. Otherwise work your ass off and you might get power, but that doesnt necessarily make you happier.

But if you're listening to his music, you're giving him your money. That's where the issue lies. You're giving money and therefore power to someone with genuinely harmful beliefs. If you like his music, that's okay. If you already own it, there's no reason to stop listening to it, but I wouldn't want to financially support someone like him. Just the same, I think it's okay to like Harry Potter as long as one doesn't give JK Rowling any more money.

I hear you. I still get my music the old-school way-converting videos to MP3 files, adding them to my iTunes library & storing them on an old iPod Touch. At the same time, I recognize there are no completely guilt-free transactions in today’s world. If I get my groceries from Trader Joe’s, I’m supporting an organization that teamed up with Elon Musk & Starbucks to undermine the legitimacy of unions. If I go to Walmart to save money, I’m supporting the Waltons-the richest family in the world-who continue to lobby against environmental regulations, employee-mandated healthcare, & wage increases. And if I buy a new iPhone, I’m supporting overseas factories with questionable labor practices. I say this as someone who tries to live by their values. As a vegan, I abstain from certain products that conflict with my beliefs. I make a conscious effort to consume more responsibly where I can, like choosing secondhand goods or supporting local businesses. But no matter how much I try, I still have to get my almond milk from somewhere. There isn’t a perfect world where I can make every decision guilt-free. There isn’t a world where a leather belt can exist without an animal dying for it. But there is a world where I can read Harry Potter or listen to Kid Rock’s music without directly supporting JK Rowling or Robert James Ritchie. So I agree with you. The best way to continue consuming good media by questionable people is by finding ways to avoid supporting them directly. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to skirt around movies, books & music. But the lines get blurrier if you stray past these mediums.
