How is it when this guy travels, everything is always open, nothing is covered with scafolds or tarps, no surley public offical snarling in your face IS CLOSE! when in fact whatever historical site you have traveled half way around the world to visit is arbitrarily closed that particular day or week.

If you asked me to give an example of an extremely down to earth, regular, nice guy I would have to say it was Michael Palin. Maybe because I've grown up with Monty Python and Michael's travel shows and books but he is the paradigm of level headedness. Probably because he usually played the straight man in the skits and probably because he's pretty clever. Who else can say they had a ball mucking around with their friends in their 20's and 30's while making good money and becoming famous and then get paid to travel the world for 35+ years? Also, it's the camera people that shoot all the B-roll that amazes me in these shows. They had to film the plane and snowmobiles departing. They're probably still up there somewhere. 😁

I've always enjoyed Michael Portillo's railway journeys through Europa. I'm glad he's still with us and doing the thing he loves. He knows how to make a good travel show. Best regards, a fan from the Netherlands.

Interesting fact. In 1775 America was a tea drinking society. It instantly became a coffee drinking society. Meanwhile, Britain gave up coffee for tea.

Hate when people treat Stephen like he is stupid, the way ted turner was with him. It's an indicator of insecurity, making other people feel worse about themselves. Zero integrity. Mind you we are talking about the guy who founded CNN so it kinda makes sense. And Stephen has the dignity and grace to not respond to it.

26 years ago I saw this series as a kid and became weirdly fascinated by the Philippines. Lo and behold, I ended up going there, falling in love and marrying a Filipina. We go back 3 or 4 times a year and I'll hopefully be retiring there. I think Mr Palin might have accidentally set the course for my life 😄
