Dans ce récit évoquant la technique, le son obtenu avec la pulpe et l'ongle, la façon de prendre la guitare, je me souviens que Javier Hinojosa enseignait de même et disait que Ponce était ce rare guitariste à avoir un son supérieur. Une fois Ponce était dans le jury d'un examen de conservatoire où j'ai joué la dernière pièce de la Suite Compostelana. Et Ponce m'a félicité disant qu'il ne l'avait jamais entendu aussi bien jouée !

I lost a book written by Pujol on guitar playing that was gladly autographed by Andres Segovia when I attended a full week of his masters class at USC. He spoke favorably of Pujol while handing the book back to me after signing it. I thought that was awesome! Thanks for the information about Pujol. I like his music.

J'ai pris des cours avec Andrea Gasperi qui étudiait avec Ponce. Quand j'avais douze ans, il m'a fait le plus beau cadeau qu'on m'ait jamais fait je pense : Charmes de la Guitare en CD. Je l'ai écouté des milliers de fois pendant ces trente dernières années, avec 'la guitare au XXe s.". J'ai essayé de retrouver la trace de Andrea pour l'en remercier, mais je n'ai jamais réussi à le contater. Je n'ai quasiment aucune autre référence en guitare classique. J'en ai écouté d'autres, mais comme on fréquente des amis d'amis, pas désagréables, mais sans plus. Je suis ému de voir ce témoignage puissant d'un proche de Ponce. Merci pour ça.

Superbe documentaire qui apporte quelque chose de neuf. En tant de conflit, de guerre, les compositeurs ont toujours été plus ou moins réservés sur leur opinion qu'ils savaient par mesure de précaution je présume, tenir loin d'eux même, ils l'exprimaient dans leur musique, ou tentaient de le faire. C'est le cas de Strauss, Chostakovitch, Jean Sibelius par exemple.

Merci à vous, c'était vraiment très intéressant. J'aime bien l'une des dernières phrases, "l'Espagne de Debussy nous servira de modèle pour l'hommage de Falla" car il me semble, si j'en crois ce que j'ai pu lire, que Debussy s'était forgé une Espagne qu'il n'avait jamais visitée justement à travers ses échanges avec de Falla.

1968, January, I had my first guitar lesson and was required to purchase E. Pujol's method book. It seems as though it was last week. Thank you Pam K for getting me started on a lifelong journey

Listen to "Vals Sacherzo"" ,playera '" and " zapateado " by Quintin Esquembre and you shall recognize the lyricism style and characteristic beauty of the second movement of the concerto of Aranjuez.

Moving story only that is not exactly truthful. Quintin Esquembre gave Regino Sainz de la Maza the manuscript of two concertos :one Concierto para guitarra y orquesta and the other Concierto para dos guitarras y orchesta supposedly to be played by the guitar duo Miguel Esquembre and Carmen González.The first movement is a display of scales up and down with a kind of flamenco rasgueado. The third movement is a falangist hymn . The second movement was stolen from the manuscrips by Quintin Esquembre. I was apupil of Miguel Esquembre who told me tje story . The maesto Esquembre was tormented the rest of his life by this perversity of both Regino Sainz de la Maza and Joaquin Rodrigo. Any serious musician would know that the second movement couldnt be writen by Rodrigo . It is not his style.The problem was that Quintin Esquembre was on the Republican side as it happenned to Daniel Fortea.The concerto for 2 guitars and orchesta by Esquembre was given the premiere in Russia not in Spain !!
