It depends on the person. My first operating system was Fedora and then I dual booted once I got a copy of Windows for games. My dual booting has not changed due to some games requiring windows due to anticheat. I imagine for some it is the philosophy, others the price, consistency or having total control over your desktop if you like tinkering or helping out the community. I have seen people move over due to the weird privacy issues with Microsoft. One has to fight with Windows install to have a local only account now, even entering command prompt. I also like that when I decide to wipe my linux installation I do not have to start all over with my configuration, or licensing issues of the OS or some software which can mean buying new licenses... because a reinstallation of the OS or hardware change could be seen as a new computer. I am not wasting my time and money. There is Apples old "doesn't get windows viruses" argument. For some it seems it's a passion and also it is pretty easy to mess around with open source software and if you're into it assisting with development or making your own projects contributing to open source. Linux distros are easier now, with some being aimed at the most user friendly experiences with Linux Mint being one of the main ones I have seen recommended in this area. While I personally still use terminal commands due to it being my normal it does seem like one could get away with never having to use the terminal. I say could as it is all well and good until something goes wrong but this is the same with windows or OSX. With windows 10 and 11 I have had to go into both command prompt and powershell more than I ever had previously to fix some driver issues, microsoft stores installation, the download speeds, forcing an uninstall and the local account issue among some game fixes due to anticheat issues causing windows to blue screen. When it comes to games in my library that I have played so far 5 which have had to be tinkered with. One to force proton. Three of them due to modern hardware which is also an issue on windows which has been acknowledged and fixed as proton matures. The last one may also eventually be fixed when proton supports the Microsoft Edge Webview 2 runtime but currently has a launcher workaround to play the game but the game has weird issues launching this way so I count it broken which brings me to 15 broken games so far, 7 being PC only games. The other 8 are available on console and the developer of two has confirmed they will be bringing it to linux when the game is released but not coming to console. VR has headsets officially supported on linux and while some work others do not, however, some amazing people are working on compatibility for those headsets. I honestly think windows and linux distros are comparable regarding ease of use, however, linux has the option of it being as challenging as you want to make it and even then there is a lot of information on the internet which can assist those people who choose to do linux from scratch. I hope this helps in some way.

Hey, yeah I can do but I didn’t do anything special I downloaded the other distro file from here www.minecraft.net/en-us/download and launched it. I will look into and do a video with the different ways to install Minecraft because you can try other launchers in the software centre like the Prism Launcher which is recommended by a lot of people but I have not used it myself, yet.

Damn, if you are on NVidia I have read some people have issues with Wayland I have no recent knowledge. If you have the best driver for your card and think it could be Wayland you can try installing another desktop environment like Gnome which still has X11 currently by typing in terminal: sudo dnf group install “GNOME Desktop Environment” I hope you have already found a fix without having to switch around desktop environments. If you do please advise because I am curious but you could help someone else having the same issue.

@@NiZonUX Got it working! Switched over to Fedora Workstation and downloaded Prism Launcher. Went into the Settings/Minecraft/Tweaks and enabled "Use system installation of GLFW". Set __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS to a value of 0 in the environment variables (to fix some weird EGL Display error) and now it works with no issues!

Yeah that was the problem I had with this video, Fortnite as a game has changed a lot over the years. Epic dude seems to have a weird issue with Linux which has its own bunch of theories as to why.

@@NiZonUX Its Tim, He publicy Announced that Fornite will not be suported on Linux in General, Steam Deck Esspicaly (pissed everyone off) but no matter what we do, its being blocked on purpose. The only way i can see the community Bypassing this issus is if they trick EAC make it thinks its running on windows or Emulation Via Android Running Fornite Mobile on Linux.

Just make sure to review any software/apps you use outside of gaming. Regarding gaming check the anti-cheat some of the games you are playing have. Websites that help with this are www.protondb.com or areweanticheatyet.com If you are lucky enough to not have any listed there thats fricken awesome, if not you keep in mind you still dual boot. If you have not tested the waters yet I recommend dual booting that way if it is not for you the change can be reversed fairly easily or at some stage you can delete windows if you are happy.

I just noticed my proton up that I created isn’t being used that may be the issue, idk honestly.

I have both as I am messing around with if there is a performance difference at the moment as there was between Lutris and Heroic Games Launcher which I found interesting. I haven’t come across your issue yet. You can try cutting the installation folder to a games folder and redirect the executable there and if that does not work try a native installation using that same folder. I am not at my system currently and cannot remember where the location of my flatpak installation was but google says /var/lib/flatpak or /.local/share/flatpak. I hope this was of some assistance.

Maybe you could try verifying the install? Maybe that could correct the file permissions before you install an update? Could you advise what you did to fix this in case someone else has the same issue.

It’s all good, I am sorry I should have made a full video showing the entire process. You download the Ubisoft launcher from their website connect.ubisoft.com After you have installed GE-Proton8-26 using ProtonUp-qt Open Heroic Games Launcher and under “Add Game” you locate the downloaded ubisoft connect file Under wine setting make sure GE-Proton8-26 is selected under wine version Run the installation using “run installer first” It will take you through the installation. Close the installation without launching ubisoft. Where it says select executable click on the icon and go through pfx, drive_c, program files (x86), Ubisoft, Ubisoft Game Launcher and select “UbisoftConnect.exe” Change the games name to Ubisoft or whatever you want and click on Finish. Now you can launch Ubisoft, login and install XDefiant.

I have tried to get a constant 60 but the best I can find that works for me is a constant 45fps

It is just the high preset in this video with the Steam Deck settings on default.

I have the Heroic Games Launcher installed on the internal drive and Ubisoft launcher installed on my microSD. If you have done similar is your microSD A2?

I have not had any crashes, however I have not tried it on Lutris.

Thank you for this, turns out I needed PDH for the Steam Deck otherwise it would crash as I entered a match.

I have a AMD graphics card, the drivers are built into the Linux kernel. I can confirm Freesync works. I plan to try out an Nvidia graphics card when the 5000 series comes out but I have no recent personal experience with Nvidia sorry.

I have not had any crashes, I suggest making sure your system is up to date. I am using proton version 9.0-1 currently on Fedora 40 using native steam my only launch command is “gamemoderun %command”. You could verify your game installation, if you are using the native version of Steam you could try the flatpak version or the other way around to see if it crashes. I have no recent experience with Nvidia GPUs but you can find advice here www.protondb.com/app/686810 it looks like they are using dx12.

I launch it from ubisoft connect. In Lutris I have installed ubisoft connect and used that to install and play my ubisoft games.

@@NiZonUX never, had always problems with the flatpak version, I'm using the official .deb With Mint 21.3 Cinnamon DE. It's linked to the anti cheat, some games does works well like Rogue Company but paladins don't (same studio, same anti cheat btw)

Yeah, the same for all drives. First 0 is regarding backup and the 2 is error checking at boot. Regarding the second number only your root should be 1 any other drive can be 0 or 2 to skip that during boot.

Yeah they do, I love games that allow modders to roam free with their creativity.
