Since you plant this cutting sir, how many days you have to wait until you open from the plastic?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
@mildredcalixto7300 you will have to wait up to about 6 months before the roots have developed. You should open the plastic every now and then to check that the compost is still wet or to water it. More checking is needed in the drier months. In the UK, I don't need to check at all during winter.

@@gardeningwithglenn, thank you so much for the information sir, I do live in the Philippines trying to grow Olive tree here in the farm. I got this Olive tree from Switzerland when I was in the vacation, now it’s growing, new leaves and branches . I think the climate is good for the Olive tree. Also on how to prune early.

Thanks for the good idea ,but which month is best for the cutting propagation plz must reply thank you ❤
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
Hi @HamzaKhan-nm3uq. The best time would be from Autumn (say 1 October) through to early Spring (say 1 March) if you are in the Northern hemisphere. If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, add 6 months to those dates.
@FruitPhilosopher2 ай бұрын
Thanks for making this. I just came across an olive tree (short video on my channel) in london with dark ripe fruits. Did you take these cuttings in November in the UK? I was debating whether i should wait to take cuttings from that tree in Spring. Its only one of two trees that ripens fruit out of roughly 50 trees I've recorded in London.
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
@FruitPhilosopher you can take those cuttings from now until maybe 1 March - for best results. Good to take cuttings from a fruitful tree as you will be getting a genetic clone.
@FruitPhilosopher14 күн бұрын
@gardeningwithglenn thanks for the response, I took them back in November! 🤞

S plísní problém nebude. Udělejte půdu méně vlhkou. Také očistěte formu z plastového sáčku, pokud je ho příliš mnoho.

Great video Glenn! I've tried propagating olives from cuttings many times without any success. I’m looking to trying your method. This is an excellent guide, but you didn't tell us what country/hemisphere you are in. This is critical information, so please let us know. Thank you from Melbourne, Australia.

Thanks @micdal. I am in the UK so Northern Hemisphere. So you need to add 6 months to a date to make it the equivalent season in Oz.

How do you manage the mold that creates from the plastic bag?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
@intelliGENeration if you get a lot of mould developing, take off the bag and give it a wash in water. In spite of there being some mould, this should not be a problem for the cuttings. Ensure the compost is not too wet. You could have less or no water in the bowl if there is too much mould but it's better to err on the side of too wet than too dry.

Can you grow a olive tree inside my home?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
Yes, you certainly can. It's better for the tree to be exposed to cold (not too intense) in winter though so maybe keep it in an unheated but light part of the house.

Hi I wanna know after how much time this tree will give fruits?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
@ruqaiyatanzeem2471 this can vary quite a lot depending on the type of Olive tree and other factors. My main tree took about 7 years but some people report fruiting from as early as 3 years.

Where in the UK can one plant an olive tree in the ground? I am in Clydebank Scotland which is always raining & olive tree roots dont like to be wet. Are you in London ?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
I am in London but you can most certainly grow Olive trees in Bonnie Scotland. As long as you don't plant them in a spot that could become waterlogged (amongst other considerations), they should do just fine.

Does it matter if the branch is too long?
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
@rajnabegum4364 I wouldn't have the branch too long. You can experiment with different lengths but the length in this video seems to work consistently. If the branch were very long I imagine that it would not be successful. Hopefully someone can prove me wrong.

Thanks for the excellent video. 2 Comments. Can you please include your location or season so we know what time of year to take cuttings. Feb is very different weather down here in Aust. (Yes i have worked out you are in the UK). Do the plants benefit from hardening up? Going from a humid hot house to garden seems a big step. A follow up video on how to prune young olive trees for best growth would complete the set. Thanks again, Steve(Aust)
@gardeningwithglenn14 күн бұрын
Thanks Steve. Yes I'm in the UK so add 6 months to reverse the seasons. My plants stay outside all year, winter included. They are never kept in a greenhouse. Olive trees are pretty tough in my opinion. I will consider your follow up video suggestion. :)
