Come on man, please don’t bank or drag fish intended for release up on the bank or in 2” of boulder strewn water like you repeatedly did. You obviously are at least a decent and probably a good angler, but you really need to work on releasing fish unharmed and with the upmost care.

This trip was Phillips, grassy, native, don, golden, and lower G. We have also fished quite a few in the green river lakes area and the simpson lake area. In the early 2000's I was a guide in the bridger wilderness so I've been around dozens of lakes on that side of the range.

My and my wife are trying to plan a trip up there this summer, I know everyone is super secretive about where and what flys they use but if you could give any info so we don’t waste our time up there that would be greatly appreciated! Even just the flies you use would be a huge help because especially for my wife who is new to fishing it’s not as much fun when you can see the fish but can’t catch them

first of all I apologize for the long winded post! Planning a trip mid August hiking Senica lake trail/Indian pass/titcomb basin trail with some side scrambles and spurs 3nights 4 days. First question I plan to pack my 5wt and euro for me and my wife my 6wt. Is the euro rod even worth packing in? How good are all the feeder streams in-between lakes (should I pack that euro rod in) or my streamer 8wt? Also a possibility is grabbing a sink top so I can run that 6 and a streamer rod. Second senica/little senica, island lake, and titcomb lake are all marked and look promising. Are any of the unmarked lakes any good or lower jean lake, lost lake, or mistake lake the smaller ones I see on the map? Any particular pattern that work particularly well? Thanks I truly appreciate any help! Below is an outline if that helps? caltopo.com/m/N05E

Sounds like you have a nice trip planned. I haven't fished that area since the early 2000's, but if I had to point you in the right direction I would say make Mistake your target for one day at least, best shot at a nice golden in that area, you will have fun fishing Island and the ticomb's, the streams between hold some good smaller fish, your 5wt and 6 wt will be fine with the euro as a back up and also nymph rig if you want. both Jeans have decent cutts if I remember correctly, but don't try to do too much. You'll see some other people on your trip no doubt, but there's a reason a lot of people go to that area, it is amazing.....Orange and grey scuds work well, especially ones tied by Rich ostoff. but we've caught them on a variety of flies including big size 12 royal stimulator's, you just never know, all the trout except goldens seem to go after streamers without hesitation, so use those a bit before you get past Island... have a great trip

Hey camera man, are you gonna try and ethically and efficiently land this fish? Nah bruh, I'm just gonna move around and film. Did the Orvis actually break or did it just come undone? I have a hard time believing one of their rods, atleast the higher end ones, would break like that, unless you were using a rod that was under-classed for that load bearing. Nice Abels though. I'd like to put one on my SAGE Approach 586.4 but I feel as though it'd be too heavy and not balance properly, also expensive. I have a Hatch on my other rod, so don't think I'm some cheapass bitch.
@steelheadbully6 жыл бұрын
I'll reply for my wife the camera women.....First I've never heard efficiency critiqued in fishing??? If she landed it 30 seconds earlier we could have moved on to more fish faster??????? Under 3 minutes to land and release a 30 inch steelhead....I hope you are calling out the other 10,000+ videos on youtube on how unethically they are fishing. I visited this beast of a bitch a few times a day when she was stuck in this pool, I even threw out fish food flakes every time, how's that for ethical. I shouldn't have to answer to post like this, but I did want to say thanks for the compliments on the Abels.....PS, I've broken more high end Orvis rods than I can actually remember, some on big fish, some falling on rocks and even one tip got it in a car door. That's why I fish High end Orvis rods. They have the best warranty in the business and fish as well as any snooty held sage...
@shanemccoy80586 жыл бұрын
Couldn;t she have scooped it? She was like 18 inches away from it or so it appeared. In terms of efficiency I'm speaking about netting times. Maybe use a heavier rod next time to get the chrome girl in faster. Yeah, Orvis is nice, prefer SAGE myself, but again I cannot foresee one of their flagship rods breaking on a fish in a freshwater scenario unless the rod was under-classed or handled improperly, I've seen the stress tests.
@FedUpHumanBeing6 жыл бұрын
Before I render an opinion regarding the ethics of throwing "out fish food flakes every time", I would need to know whether those fish food flakes were Organic, Gluten Free, & Fair Trade Purchased. Secondly, were any indigenous people displaced or otherwise harmed in the growing of the ingredients in the flakes? And lastly and most importantly, were you wearing pink crocs when the "throwing" took place? If not - I'd have to go with letting the bitch starve in that puddle.

Try pulling your rod to the side instead of over your head you will have more control over the fish and be able to apply 3x the amount of force.

Fishing in such low water conditions, is that ethical?The Truckee River has been in a drought and the big fish are stuck in pools that used to very deep. I wouldn't go fishing like that jut to be able to take a pic. The fish may not survive the release.
@steelheadbully7 жыл бұрын
Is any fishing ethical?????That was the second time I caught that same fish in that same hole. The first time was about 2 weeks earlier. Kinda hard to forget a one eyed bitch, so she survived the first release just fine, and a big rain pushed her back to the lake the following week. Glad your too good to catch big trout out of small water on the truckee. Sounds like that river has enough hipsters to keep on ethically killing fish without even knowing it. Tight lines.....
