OK, I'm sold. I need this CD. She makes that violin sing like few violinists ever do with any violin. The joy of her lifelong dream coming true, in a way so much grander than she could have ever imagined, seeps through every moment of this interview. I've never heard of this lady before today, but I very much admire her musicianship and joyful spirit. I realize this is basically a commercial, but.....THANK YOU!

What an amazing performance. The best. Not only is the perfection of the quality of voice unassailable, her every piece of arsenal from her vocal skills is astounding: perfect pitch, divine legato and phrasing and that clear clear diction including every consonant ending a word, clear and unobtrusive. I love you!!! Better even than Renee and that's saying something...

This horse has been ridden by way too many people for too long, think of how the horse would feel. Also, it's 1% violin and 99% the musician, so stop unnecessarily idolizing and fixating on one thing.

Thanks for this Nicholas! Yesterday’s session found me frantically moving the mike (Rode Ntk) around to minimize key clacking, particularly as I was multitracking oboes 1.2.3. Your instrument didn’t have that issue. Also you record in a very live room. Please comment on this choice. Thanks!

It would be lovely if John Wilson and the Sinfonia of London recorded Alfredo Casella's orchestrations for Balakirev's Islamey and J.S. Bach's Chaconne BWV1004. Casella's orchestration for Mily Balakirev's Islamey, is an orchestral tour de force - it will surely stretch the orchestra to the limit. There is astonishing volume per page, at least one page requires 30 staves, there is textural complexity, divisi strings, tutti passages that demand considerable instrumentation, but there are also passages full of colour and delicacy with subtle and fine instrumental soli emitting mesmerising melodic writing. On the other hand, Casella brought a lot of inventiveness and boldness to bear, when doing his orchestral transcription for Bach's Chaconne. He kept Bach's original violin, but simultaneously, he brought to the fore all the polyphonic and contrapuntal substratum that exists in latent form (in the original violin work).
