We just visited for a library tasting at Monte Bello. We had a lovely time with Josh, and it was fun to taste the 2017 Monte Bello since I haven’t opened any of mine yet. We also got had a chance to taste the 50th anniversary Lytton, which was lovely. I’m glad a was able to order some extra.

Yes!! Dry, but a beautiful hint of sweetness of honey and berries when it hits your tongue. Thank you for this lovely wine!

I buy grapes from a paso robles vineyard, planted to zinfandel that is 43 years old and its definitely in my opinion neck and neck if not to me slightly superior to dusi fruit. Absolutely fantastic body, rich fruit, a ton of spice and coats the mouth and is just so velvety. I love it its one of my favorite wines to drink because its drinkable really early on.

In my case my Inspiration for getting into the wine industry and becoming a winemaker was my 3x great grandfather who was a prolific Pre Prohibition winemaker in California back as early as the 1870's. That winery lasted untill just after prohibition my grandmother remembers hanging out with her grandfather in the winery back in the 40's. The winery was built on land they bought after striking gold in the california gold Rush, in Calaveras County.

The oldest vines i have had the chance to work with as a winemaker have been 50 year old vines I work with a 50 year old zinfandel vineyard every year and have bought grapes for the last 6 years from the same vineyard and it just produces spectacular grapes even though the yields are starting to decline a bit. Super concentrated.

How would you compare to the Alder Springs? I was floored by the finish on that one.
@RidgeVineyards6 ай бұрын
Glad to hear you're enjoying the Alder Springs! Here's what Winemaker Trester has to say about the two: "The 2023 Grenache Blanc is going to be a bit weightier and have more of an exotic fruit profile to it than the Alder Springs. The Alder Springs is more acidic with a lighter body, which gives it a freshness and long finish. The Grenache Blanc has a viscous mouthfeel but still has plenty of acidity coming from the Picpoul."

I acquired a bottle of this wine recently. It was from 2009. The cork broke when I opened it. I continued knowing that sometimes you get lucky! Well I got lucky and this wine although slightly gamey from mistorage is excellent!! Thank you you amazing people who produced this excellent wine!

Problem with using cultured yeasts even once is that even if you clean and sanitize your "wild fermentations:" are likely colonized by the added commercial yeast and completing because of that, if you wanted true wild then you would do it a few years let the yeasts colonize the winery and never use any commercial yeast at all and then the winery is innoculated with the native yeasts.

@@RidgeVineyards Thanks! We grow a lot of Lenior here in the Texas Gulf Coast due to its PD resistance. Interesting to hear about it growing at a heritage vineyard in California.

I wouldnt say so with the price they charge, its a good wine but not a good value can get better or equal for less money. As a winemaker I appreciate ridge they make good wines but seriously I would never call a like $143 bottle of wine a good value.
