Rocks look good different than the norm, Where did you get the water containers with the volume markers on please?

A nice video my friend - I make all my own filters as well. I think they are easier to clean work way more efficient and of course are cheaper. I subscribed.

I am looking at setting an aquaponics system up, I was under the impression that the plants take care of the filtration, by filtering and using a uv are you not taking away some of the nutrients?
@JohnB_AnyFin
@JohnB_AnyFin Жыл бұрын
No the uv mainly takes care of bacteria background levels rather than affecting the nutrients - the plants are very effective at absorbing nitrates and phosphates from the circulating water column 👍

Really good. Aside from build and set up costs. What are the general running costs for the system

How do you keep the trouts at right temperature?
@JohnB_AnyFin
@JohnB_AnyFin Жыл бұрын
Hi... the trout were okay for a while but as in the video the temps rose to such high levels for the South of the UK (40 degrees) that sadly the couple of fish that were lost triggered a cascade of losses which ended in all the trout passing. It was a hard (and upsetting) lesson for me. Even though I had the sump pond in the shade for cooling it just wasn't enough...I eventually replaced the trout with a mixture of koi which are still in the system & overwintering in there at the moment. Hope this helps...

your setup is intersting and seems working well. i like how u integrated different systems in one. i am based in the uk and would love to hear more update from you. how is it going now, any growth, any challenge from the coming winter? thanks for sharing,
@JohnB_AnyFin
@JohnB_AnyFin Жыл бұрын
Hi Abenezer ... the system is all but shut-down for the winter period right now except for the main pond (which now contains a mixture of koi in it) which has a gentle movement through the shower filter just to keep some circulation going and to avoid icing-up etc. Another potential benefit might be avoiding a total re-start of the nitrate cycle come spring as the trickle filter may be retaining some beneficial bacteria? I have made some changes to the system so perhaps I'll do some more videos in the spring as I start the system back up again...
