my driving motors are wildly underpowered. which do you recommend to give it enough torque?

One of my all time favorites, I wish Ripmax would reintroduce this wonderful ARF. Mine used a brushed 550 motor and gear box with a 12 inch prop, and back then we used 8 cell nicads. C size , fantastic fun plane.

Thank you, But yours must of been different to this one? You would never get a 550 motor in this & 8 cell ni-cad, It would be like putting a brick in it, It would never get off the ground,lol

@Darren-RC-videos Yes, mine was a little different it was an earlier model it had purple film body and yellow wings, and the wing span was 72 inches in length , very similar design but larger. Hello, This plane is not new to me, I've owned it for almost 8 years now, I only tend to fly it on calm days but wanted to get a recording done of it. Never needed a prop saver and none available in that size anyway as it's a large 12x6 prop. Thanks and glad you like the video.

@EleanorPetersonАй бұрын
That's terrific! Great model, very nicely finished. I love blue and yellow together. I used to cover most of my planes in either blue and yellow tissue, nylon or Solarfilm because the colours showed up so well against the typical grey skies and black, green, purple and brown storm clouds of an English summer's day. My homemade aerial photography kites were all in yellow and blue (ripstop polyester), too. Sadly, such a choice of colours is now seen as being an overt political statement. Sigh. Well, I can't afford Solarfilm or its equivalents any more, so all my current models are done in thin laminating film with a few day-glo pink, orange or green patches to aid visibility and orientation. Laminating film's good stuff: ridiculously cheap, tough, and easy to apply. It's also colourless, so there's no danger of drawing the attention of any passing military combat jets, attack helicopters, tank drivers or missile-launcher operators. Hey, I'm based in West Yorkshire; it could happen...🤭
@Darren-RC-videosАй бұрын
Hi thanks for your comments, Yes some colours work better than others i guess, i have not had any military interest in my planes yet,lol This plane does come pre-covered like that as it's a "almosr ready to fly" but i do love the blue and yellow of it, it reallys makes it looks very nice. Thanks

Good luck with your build. I built one of these 35 years ago. I think it used printed wood for the ribs and shaped parts. I have a photo of it along with the original plan somewhere. I heard you mention. You upgraded the gears on the loader. Do you have a link to where you bought the gears from? I have the same Huina loader. I also want to upgrade it. I was thinking of upgading the electronics as well. Any ideas? I've seen a video of someone modifying their Huina with a 3S brush ESC. But, it looks very involved. I'm not that mechanicly inclined . A motor upgade would be nice. Any suggestions?

Thanks for watching my video, if you look back in my list of videos you will see a video where i show putting the upgraded gearboxes on it as well as a few other items, to take out all the electrics and replace with a better ESC is very technical & yes it's extremely involved to get it right and something you would have to spend a lot of time getting right, here is a link for the gearbox upgrades & you need two of them, the rest of the upgrades can all be found on the same website by typing in 1583 or 583, Gearbox link, magomhrc.com/en/huina-583-hydraulic-conversion/1697-huina-583-traction-kit.html

Very nice job. What's the final weight? I used to find that lubricating the rubber was a great way to get the best out of it. Putting on the turns can definitely be pretty scary! When I flew big outdoor duration models the rubber was stretched out seven or eight feet from the nose before being cranked many hundreds of turns. The stored-up power was incredible. Back in the fuselage it was enclosed in a separate reinforced tube that was there to prevent it from smashing the plane to bits as it unwound. I'm sure your lovely Ajax will have no such problems. Good luck!

At freehand painting down looks really excellent I thought you were going to say you spend a while masking it all off! I kept my undercarriage in on the Ajax by bending The Wire into a slight s shape on each wire. Have you lubricated the motor, you'll get a lot more turns on it?
@Darren-RC-videos5 ай бұрын
I lied a little there about the painting,lol 😁 I did mask off the fuselage to do the line down each side but the rest is all free hand. I did in fact bend the ends of the wire to hold it in but did not help so got a drop of super glue on each side just to hold in place.
